There Is No Escape
Mujāhid reported that ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān (may Allah be pleased with him) said in a sermon: "O children of Ādam, know that the Angel of Death who has been assigned to every soul has not ceased to pass by you, and move on to others ever since you have been in this world, حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ دَازِيلَ الْهَمَذَانِيُّ، نَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ؛ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ الْمُبَارَكِ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ الْفَزَارِيَّ يَقُولُ: عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ؛ قَالَ: خَطَبَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، فَقَالَ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ: ابْنَ آدَمَ! اعْلَمْ أَنَّ مَلَكَ الْمَوْتِ الَّذِي وُكِلَ بِكَ لَمْ يَزَلْ يُخْلِفُكَ وَيَتَخَطَّى إِلَى غَيْرِكَ مُذْ أَنْتَ فِي الدُّنْيَا، But it is as if he is about to pass over someone else and move on to target you, وَكَأَنَّهُ قَدْ تَخَطَّى غَيْرَكَ إِلَيْكَ وَقَصَدَكَ؛ So be careful, and prepare for him by correcting your deeds, فَخُذْ حِذْرَكَ وَاسْتَعِدَّ لَهُ، And do not forget him, وَلَا تَغْفَلْ؛ For Indeed he has not forgotten you, فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفَلُ عَنْكَ، And know children of Ādam if you are heedless about yourself, وَاعْلَمِ ابْنَ آدَمَ إِنْ غَفِلْتَ عَنْ نَفْسِكَ And do not prepare for him, وَلَمْ تَسْتَعِدَّ [لَهَا] ؛ No one else will prepare you for him, لَمْ يَسْتَعِدَّ لَهَا غَيْرُكَ، You most certainly will meet Allah the Mighty and Majestic. وَلَا بُدَّ مِنْ لِقَاءِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ؛ So take account for yourself, and do not leave it up to someone else. فَخُذْ لِنَفْسِكَ وَلَا تَكِلْهَا إِلَى غَيْرِكَ، al-salāmu ʿalaykum. وَالسَّلَامُ al-Dīnawarī, al-Mujālasah wa Jawāhir al-ʿIlm 2/73 #207 الدِّينَوري، المجالسة وجواهر العلم ٢/٧٣ #٢٠٧ https://shamela.ws/book/9948/248 @ilmtest [https://t.me/ilmtest]
