Here is my entry for Kota Ibushi Appreciation Week 2018! 

First page: Fave match involving Kota + Kota and Kenny (Golden Lovers)

- I love all Kota’s matches, and his and Ishii’s G1 match this year really stood out!! It was super intense, honestly terrifying, and just a spectacle of how cool both of them are.

- The Golden Lovers are my favorite tag team and my favorite story in wrestling, I just absolutely love how they are with each other, and just how incredible it is to have a LGBTQA+ story in something I love so much!! Super excited for the new documentary.

Second page: Kota Outside the Ring + Kota in DDT + Gear Appreciation

- Kota outside the ring is just as wild as Kota inside it, his diet is ridiculous (burger with 5 meat patties, salts his potato chips, LOVES CHEESE (that fondue video is adorable), lots of alcohol, etc.), his clothes are supreme very hypebeast, and his flips off everything is the best.

- DDT has lots of my fave Kota moments, fireworks, his ASTOUNDING and TREACHEROUS matches with Forever Champ Yoshihiko, and baby Golden Lovers ;w;

- I love all Kota’s hairstyles, but esp his longer hair. I also loooove all his booty short styles, and his loooong boots. Beautiful. 

Third page: Kota Tagging w Partner(s) of Your Choice + General Kota Appreciation

- I mostly paired Kota with some of my other fave wrestlers even if it doesn’t make sense (him and Taichi are a prime example pair of this haha). I’d love to see him tag with Naito again...I love their relationship. And there’s lots of comedy potential with him and Taguchi. Also Yoh is very cute and it’d be so cute if he idolized Kota (who...is thinkin bout that balcony).

Kota Ibushi is my favorite wrestler of all-time! He holds a special place in my heart, was my introduction to wrestling period (along w Kenny, the GL story), and is such a delightful, strange, beautiful soul. I cried when he lost G1 this year, cried when he won the NEVER belt, and cry just thinking about him sometimes! I hope he can feel all our love and support for him, always rooting for his success!

kota ibushi appreciation week - 20/12 Kota in DDT

I didn’t watch a lot of DDT matches, but while going back to see some GL stuff from the DDT days I came across the famous matches against the .... doll. These gifs, in particular, are from this 2015 match and while I am a bit baffled and uncomfortable at the whole doll idea, I still had to bring this for the appreciation week. 

The reason is that I am a wrestling noob. 

I am always worried, gasping, every time someone falls and in particular Ibushi is incredibly convincing in his winces of pain and I am CONSTANTLY worried. Watching these matches between Ibushi and Yoshihiko was truly eye opening for me because it showed how much work is Ibushi actually doing on the ring, how much of the performance is him WANTING to have a good performance.

I am still amazed.

kota ibushi appreciation week | day 5 | gear appreciation

Every day of the year (and, indeed, life) is a day to deeply appreciate Kota’s signature glittery booty shorts. But during this special week, let’s take a moment to appreciate the single handsomest event in all of human history, Kota cosplaying legendary Japanese warlord Nobunaga Oda. This six-man match featured several iconic names in Japanese wrestling, and was a tie-in with a mobile game about Japan’s Warring States (Sengoku) period. Please note Ibushi hitting a Golden Triangle Moonsault and a Phoenix Splash in this armor.

Of course Kota is just as delightful when he’s not wrestling as when he is, so please forgive the liberties taken with the prompt today. “Outside of the ring” felt like a perfect opportunity to pay tribute to one of Kota’s signature moves, the Golden Triangle Moonsault: a running vault onto some part of the corner (top or middle turnbuckle, top rope, Kota’s not picky), followed by a moonsault onto an opponent outside of the ring.
