Hmm... maybe cas could be reading them a story, but they both keep interrupting him and asking questions. (You know, like when you're reading to a little kid and you say something like "he was angry" and the kid interrupts and goes "why was he angry?" 😂) and cas gets annoyed and tickles them until they agree to stop ;D idk, does that work? :))

Okay this was mad cute lmao. Thank you so very much for the prompt! I hope you like this little drabble. I do not own the children’s story book Goodnight Moon, I just reference it here.

“In the great green roomThere was a telephoneAnd a red balloonAnd a picture of–”

“Of what?”

“You will know once I turn the page, Dean.”

“–The cow jumping over the moon–”

“Hehehe,” came Sam’s small giggles, “Sihihilly cow,” he pointed to the picture with a tiny finger.

“And there were three little bears sitting on chairsAnd two little kittensAnd a pair of mittensAnd a little toy houseAnd a young mouse–”

“Ah! Mouse! Sammy, it’s gonna get ya!” Dean stirred up trouble when he pinched his fingers in little Sam’s direction. Sam squeaked and attempting getting far away from his older brother. But each Winchester was tucked under one of Castiel’s arms, so they had hardly anywhere to go.

“Dean,” Castiel admonished and eyed the young child.

Dean giggled, “Sohohorry, Cas. Keep going,” he snuggled more into Castiel’s side. Sam copied his brother, sticking his thumb near his lips.

Castiel paused before continuing the story, “And a comb and a brush and a bowl full of mushAnd a quiet old lady who was whispering hush–”

Sam made a face and tugged on Castiel’s sleeve, “Cassy, what’s mush?”

Castiel sighed and refrained from rolling his eyes, “Why don’t you save the questions for later and let me finish the story?”

“Is mush like mud?” Dean speculated.

“Or like Jell-O?”

“No, mush is like porridge,” Castiel snapped. He laid the book down on his lap, “If you two keep interrupting, you’ll leave me no choice but to stop reading the bedtime story.”

“Nooooo!” both Dean and Sam chorused. 

Castiel looked between the two youngsters when an idea sprung to his head. It might rile them up more than he would’ve liked, or it could also tire them out. He decided to take the chance. 

“You know, Sam. Dean,” he began, “When little boys don’t let an angel finish reciting a bedtime story, do you know what happens?”

Dean shook his head, “Nope.”

“Would you like to know?” Castiel’s blue eyes shimmered with something akin to mischief.

“Ummm…” Dean was skeptical, noticing the look even being as young as he was. 

When he felt squeezing at his sides, Dean fell forward onto Cas’s lap, laughing without abandon, “Hahahahaha! N-Nohoho, Cahahas!”

“You should join your brother, Sam,” Castiel smiled and he clawed at Sam’s chubby tummy.

Sam squealed and burst into laughter much like his brother, “EEAAHAHA! CahahaHAHASSY!”

Castiel grinned, now having both boys at his mercy, “So, you are both going to sit quietly and let me finish Goodnight Moon, correct?”

“YEAHAH!” Dean shrieked when Castiel dug into his hips. His other hand’s fingers fluttered against the soft skin of Sam’s belly, tippling up to his ribs.

“Sam?” Castiel repeated for a secondary approval.

Sam nodded wildly, squirming and wriggling around on the bed, too busy laughing to form an affirmative answer.

Castiel grinned and he stopped, gathering up the two to each of his sides again, “Good,” and he allowed them time to calm down.

Sam cuddled into Castiel’s side, a big smile on his face. Dean rested his head on Cas’s ribs and chest, chest heaving still from the laughs. Castiel gave them each a poke to the sides to hear their giggles once more before resuming the tale.

“Goodnight roomGoodnight moonAnd the red balloonGoodnight bearsGoodnight chairsGoodnight kittensAnd goodnight mittensGoodnight clocksAnd goodnight socksGoodnight little houseAnd goodnight mouseGoodnight combAnd goodnight brushGoodnight nobodyGoodnight mushAnd goodnight to the old lady whispering hushGoodnight stars.”

He peeked to see both both Winchesters with their eyes closed.

“Goodnight air.”

He closed the book and tucked them both in.

“Goodnight noises everywhere.”
