Also! Let's talk for a sec about the history of Eric Carle himself in relation to Steve. Carle's family was German, and although he was born in New York, he was in Germany during WWII. In fact, his father was drafted into the German army, and he was conscripted himself by the German government to work on the Siegfried line. If Steve didn't feel some kind of emotional connection to Eric Carle, I would be stunned.
