Cornball ass oc posting... I got 6 normal silly ones and 1 serious angsty one today.
- Obel is more broken up about Kivah and Phaedra breaking up than either of them are LOL. He was so glad that Kivah had someone reliable and responsible to look after her, and he doubts she's going to get that lucky again 😭 He and Nahla worry it will make things awkward between the girls and Kivah will have lost her bestie/worstie/victim/handler, but they are relieved to find that literally nothing about their relationship changes.
- Actually one thing does change and that's that Kivah now gets to do a new bit where she talks like a forlorn old man about her ("she's gone now...the days we spent together were truly wonderful...😔") and Phaedra yells at her to stop talking about her like she's dead 😭
- Kae'len is definitely the more sensible one between the twins and is much less quick to anger than Kivah, but he is no less savage when the situation calls for it...in an attempt to bully him for being cool and popular, he was once asked whether Klingon hybrids get two dicks or just one, to which he responded that that the would-be bully should find out from their parents by asking whether they sucked him off at the same time or if they had to take turns when he fucked them last night.
- In a training exercise that has Phaedra in the field and Kivah at ground control, they get annoyed with each other fast for doing their part "inefficiently." In a combat scenario, Kivah is aggressively asking Phaedra why she doesn't just use sonic scream to incapacitate the enemy, and Phaedra is aggressively explaining that she can't just do it "whenever." However, she does end up using it, and tells Kivah it was actually very easy when she pretended the enemies were her instead. (Kivah takes this as a compliment and evidence that Phaedra feels more strongly about her than anyone else, which means Kivah is Winning (what she's winning idk)).
- Kivah and Kae'len (especially Kae'len) are upset about their mom having a whole other family and life before them bc she's THEIR mom, and at the time they aren't yet old enough to fully comprehend their parents as entire people outside of that role. They've admitted to each other (but not to nahbel) that they're glad Nahla's son died bc otherwise there would be no them, probably, and in their minds there's no way that she could love them as much as him when he had a head start of over 150 years.
- A friend/classmate of Kae'len's asks if he could pleeeaaase put in a good word for him with Phaedra bc he really wants to ask her out and he knows they're friends, but Kae'len is super hesitant bc he can only imagine how much torment his sister would inflict upon anyone dating Phaedra. The guy is like "Aw man, is she already seeing someone? 😣" And Kae'len is like *trying and failing to think of how to explain that relationship in a way normal people could understand* "I mean....not exactly....it's just uhh... not something I can recommend right now..." and the guy thinks he's trying to politely say she's out of his league, which he knows is true LOL, so he takes Kae'len's advice. Kae'len breathes a sigh of relief at having narrowly avoided what would probably have been an armed conflict.
- Once when they have a free period, another guy gets up the courage to shoot his shot with Phaedra and is like "haha so you're half betazoid right that's really cool haha maybe you can tell me more about your planet sometime-" only to be interrupted by Kivah who is like "more like FULL BETA CUCK 😂😂😂😂😂 Is this woman bothering you, king?? 🤨 Sorry about her, on my honor I won't let her bother you again 🫡" and drags her away elsewhere. Phaedra is rather indifferent to this and is just like "*sigh* really???" And Kivah is like "what? It's not like you like him. I was helping 🤷" and she thinks about arguing just on principle (even though that is indeed the case), but decides on the path of least resistance instead.
When Nahla eventually finds out about their feelings, she tries to explain to them that Lanthanites experience these things differently than other species and they'll understand when they're older, etc. They don't like that answer and neither does she, but she also doesn't like to lie to them, and it's the only way she has to explain it bc they literally don't have enough perspective on their longevity yet. It had already taken a lot to convince herself that it was okay for her to have a family with Obel, and she worries that that had been a selfish decision and she's done their kids a disservice by being their mom. Obel reassures her she didn't do anything wrong, and asks her permission to talk to them about it despite it not necessarily being his place as a non-Lanthanite, which she grants and is thankful for.
Obel talks to them and explains that he's not upset about it, and he's in fact glad that Nahla has experienced as much love in her life as she has, and that she had a family that took care of her long before he was even born. He also reassures them that she - and they - deserve to have that after he's gone too, and it won't make the 4 of them any less of a family bc Nahla's love is not a finite resource, and there is no universe in which she doesn't love them with her entire heart.
Maybe Kivah admits to him in a roundabout way that she felt relieved about Nahla's son dying, which takes him aback a bit, but he understands why she'd feel that way at her age. He tells the twins that, although he never had the pleasure of knowing him, from what he's been told and simply by virtue of being his mother's son, he has no doubt their brother would have adored them. He asks that they consider giving him the benefit of the doubt, and tells them it would mean a lot to both him and Nahla if they did.
When he debriefs Nahla on the situation that night, he of course doesn't tell her about the twins' feelings regarding her son, but they're concerned about their kids feeling that their love would be a competition. The topic of them possibly stepping back from their work for a while is clearly present, but not something either of them have the energy to discuss right then.
