Fanfic concept: it's a few decades after Nahla left, and Obel is out with the lads for a celebration, maybe his birthday or one of their bachelor parties. They end up at a strip club, and while Obel does not typically participate in such things, he's pretty drunk and may have indulged in some illicit substances, so he goes along with it....⬇️
Once they get settled, a little blonde human woman takes the stage and Obel is immediately both incredulous and entranced. There's absolutely no way it's Nahla, and he's probably just seeing the things he wants to see, but he can't take his eyes off her. She notices him noticing her, and approaches him after her routine. She doesn't say anything, but she gives him a lap dance and he swears she smells like Nahla too when she's that close, but it's crowded and his senses are out of whack and he's very much yearning for her, so he can't trust his own judgement.
He wants to ask her if it's her, but as soon as he gathers the courage to do so, she puts a finger to his lips like she knows what he's going to say, keeping the dream intact. She kisses his cheek before getting pulled away elsewhere, leaving Obel stunned and dazed.
After that night, he never gets any further clues as to whether it was actually her. The memories are hazy, and he can't talk about it without sounding like a crazy person, but the way she looked at him and touched his lips makes him feel like the impossible scenario is, somehow, the truth. As the years go by, and he and Nahla continue along their separate paths, it starts to feel more like a dream than reality, and he thinks maybe it's better that way.
The story ends there, but there would be an epilogue where they're officially back together and he asks her about it, and she's like "what answer are you hoping for?" and he says he's not "hoping" for either answer, he just wants to know, so she's like "🤷 then I guess it's a mystery lost to time" then kisses his cheek, letting him know what the right answer is if he chooses to accept it, but not forcing him to abandon the dream.
