Did you know that Lavender essential oil was used by the ancient Egyptians during the mummification process? This oil is great for beginners, because it’s delicate enough that it can be used topically without dilution and it is child safe (though you may still have to dilute it for sensitive skin).
Lavender is quite the versatile oil as well. It is widely known for it’s antibacterial and healing effects while in ancient times it was used in bathing, our ovation and anointing.
Here’s some other benefits for lavender essential oil:
1. Antioxidant Protection
Studies have found that lavender essential oil helps to increase the activity of the strongest antioxidants in the body, including glutathione.
2. Diabetes Natural Treatment
While more research needs to be conducted, a promising animal study found that over a two week period there was a reduction in the following diabetes symptoms: “Increased blood glucose (the hallmark of diabetes), Metabolic disorders (especially fat metabolism), Weight gain, Liver and kidney antioxidant depletion, Liver and kidney dysfunction, Liver and kidney lipoperoxidation (when free radicals “steal” necessary fat molecules from cell membranes)”.
3. Improves Mood and Reduces Stress
Science backs ther traditional use of lavender for a variety of neurological/psychological issues such as migraines, stress, anxiety, depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Postpartum Depression/Anxiety, sleep disturbances and Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
4. Supports Brain Function
A couple of shocking studies have found that lavender essential oil helps reduce or heal from other neurological, including Alzheimer’s and post stroke recovery
5. Heals Burns and Cuts
In the foraging class I was taking, it was recommended that lavender essential oil be part of the items packed in your hiking bag. Why? Because for many hundreds of years, backed by modern scientific literature, lavender has been praised for its anti microbial properties that is enhanced when paired with clove, cinnamon or tea tree oil when mixed together in a 1:1 ratio. For burns, cuts, scrapes and other wounds, mix 3-5 drops with 1/2 tsp of coconut oil and apply to the spot in question.
6. Promotes Healthy Skin and Hair
It is thought that these anti microbial and antioxidant properties aid in lavender being fantastic for the skin and hair. “Using lavender oil topically can help to improve a number of skin conditions, from canker sores to allergic reactions, acne and age spots. Its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties help to ease skin conditions and reverse signs of aging”. Mixing lavender essential oil with frankincense essential oil and applying To the skin before bed can help reduce inflammation and signs of aging. Lavender oil, along with thyme, rosemary and Cedarwood can help reduce hair loss when massages into the scalp daily.
7. Relieves Headaches
Lavender oil can be used for tension headaches by promoting relaxation. According to Dr. Axe, one of the best headache reliefs is two drops each of lavender essential oil and peppermint essential oil (dilute if using with children due to peppermint).
8. Improves Sleep and Insomnia
“Inhaling lavender has shown to reduce sleep disturbance, improve quality and duration of sleep, fight insomnia and improve overall well-being. Plus, unlike most sedative drugs, lavender does not cause any unwanted side effects. It actually promotes general mental and physical health”. You can diffuse before or during sleep, rub 3-5 drops directly on the neck, chest and temples, add 15 drops and 1 cup of Epsom salts to a bath, or by mixing with roman chamomile and a Good Night Lotion.
9. Relieves Pain
Did you know that you could rub lavender essential oil directly onto the skin where there is pain to reduce the intensity and the inflammation of a certain area? Studies have found that lavender essential oil reduced the pain felt from dialysis needles, menstrual cramps and a mixture of lavender, peppermint, black pepper and Marjoram essential oils improved neck pain when applied daily
10. Complementary Therapy for Cancer
“A 2012 study published in the African Journal of Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicines shows that aromatherapy, particularly using lavender oil, helps patients with cancer cope with stress, nausea, chronic pain and depression. Because lavender oil works to stimulate the immune system, boost mood, improve sleep and fight stress, it can be used as a therapeutic agent.
Massaging lavender oil into the back of your neck, chest, wrists and temples can induce relaxing and calming effects. If you are experiencing muscle or joint pain, or pain at the site of injections, apply 2–3 drops of lavender to the affected area.
To relieve stress and anxiety, and improve sleep, diffuse lavender or inhale it directly from the bottle. This can be particularly useful before and after surgical procedures and chemotherapy treatment”.
You can use lavender at home as a natural perfume, non-toxic air freshener, natural lip balm and as a remedy for stomach discomforts (rubbing on necks, wrists or temples).
There are certain situations that you wish to be careful using essential oils due to the lack of studies done
“Medication Interactions: If you are already taking any prescription medication for sleep-related disorders or for depression, be cautious of the fact that lavender can increase the effectiveness of these medications. Even if you use an over-the-counter sleep aid or any type of sedatives (even cough or flu medicine), keep in mind that lavender makes many people sleepy and even somewhat drowsy, so it’s best to not combine lavender oil with other medications or sleep-related supplements. If you are planning on undergoing anesthesia in the near future, you will also want to avoid using lavender oil.
Pregnant Women: Lavender oil is generally considered safe for women who are pregnant and nursing. Because it can have a relaxing effect on muscles and can also effect hormone levels, use lavender with caution in your third trimester. It’s best to speak with your doctor about use of any essential oils when pregnant, since it has not been guaranteed that these are safe at this time.
Children: Lavender oil is considered generally safe for children to use, although there is some concern that lavender’s effect on hormone levels could be harmful for boys who have not yet gone through puberty. Although there isn’t strong evidence for lavender being a hormone disrupter (only 1–2 very small studies were ever completed), parents are told to use caution if using lavender oil frequently on young children”.

I’m working on these sets of Baby Bowls. I studied a master degree in Industrial Design and my project was about designing furniture for children so I realized how important colors, materials and textures are and how they affect the kids development. For a long time I looked for the most natural paint and finish I could find in the market so I could have something to offer to the little ones. Finally here they are and soon will coming to the shop (link in bio or https://karladiaz.shop) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #karladiaz #nontoxic #sustainable #momlife #kidsafe #toddlermeals #babyfever #handcrafted https://www.instagram.com/p/B2UQGVAD7Yu/?igshid=1jc6luwteulol
