I'm a babysitter. I've been babysitting since lunatics paid a twelve-year-old five bucks an hour to watch their kids back when children watching children still seemed like a good idea. I am also the eldest of three siblings, my youngest brother clocking in at eleven and a half years younger than me. So I suppose that helped with my koalafications for child care (dad joke).
Through the years, I have enjoyed, endured, suffered through, and occasionally refused watching various programs in the realm of children's entertainment. I think about kids' TV a fair amount since I have to be around it on a fairly regular basis, and thought I should maybe stop voicing my opinions to my Facebook friends and take it elsewhere; you can only extol the virtues of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic so many times before people are pretty sure you're a Brony.
So this is my outlet. I'll rage, celebrate, and review these things for the benefit of...myself? and potentially other sitters out there. Take this as a guide for gently steering the youngerlings to more enjoyable, intelligent fare. I mean, I remember my sitters. They had some influence on my taste during those formative years. My mother also lied to me that, "Barney doesn't come on TV here," when we moved when I was three, and I'm not any worse for it. We have an opportunity here to shape future generations' entertainment tastes. WOW, that is giving this blog a lofty purpose. Less lofty: Making your TV time when babysitting slightly less "must-bury-myself-in-phone." There, that's more selfish. Just like kids!
I should probably mention that I don't ONLY watch TV with children I babysit. We also play board games, do puzzles, go outside, color, cook, read, and do other fun, educational things! I swear!
