— ❝ you know what you look like? ❞ the mage asked, approaching the literal demon overlord without a shred of fear, regret, remorse, et cetera, simply looking to state what she wished.
𝕧eronica stared priere down for a solid moment, those big ol’ eyes of hers pretty much unreadable, aside for a bit of a mischeveous glint. it’d be pretty hard to predict what she was going to say next, seeing as her first statement was rather unconventional by itself.
𝕒ctually, though her actual statement may be hard to discern, it was pretty clear veronica was going to insult the other based on appearance.
— ❝ i don’t know what you’re really supposed to be, but you look like a succubat. i bet i could take you. ❞
Did somebody say... religious exchange? Tell me more about the religion in your muse's world! Like... if you can! I know sometimes these fantasy religions can be kinda generic...
Oh boy. Well if there’s one thing Ciel Nosurge/Surge Concerto doesn’t lack, its worldbuilding, and that includes the religious organization Kanon belongs to! Since its a little complicated, its easier to explain OOC than have Kanon actually explain it herself. This is a little long, so it’s under the cut!
So the religious organization Kanon is the Archbishop of is the Imperial Genometrics Synchronization Mediation Institute (Chimon, for short). Their original purpose was to mediate the interactions between the humans and the Genom (Sharl), which are a type of lifeform known only to the planet Ra Ciela.
Genom.. They’re basically a race that’s made up of many forms (i.e. Imaginary types look similar to dragons and fae, while they can also look like cats, squirrels, there’s a very rare type that can actually look completely human) and they can create Song Magic. Their hierarchy is based on how ‘refined’ their souls are, with the more refined being higher up the chain. The Chimon was a gigantic organization in it’s prime, with offshoots like the Tenmon and some others branching from it in time. The main reason for their growth is because humans and Genom are basically inseparable. The Genom need humans to help further their species, and humans need Genom for the Song Magic they can make.
The basis behind the Chimon’s religious connotations is that they worship Genom in a similar way a Christian worships God, reveres angels, and generally respects the non-human. Cosal, the King of the Genom, is basically a God in their rhetoric, while all Genom are revered as otherwordly beings that are precious to humanity itself. (This is all actually part of Cosal’s ploy to get humans to eventually eject themselves from the planet but oh god is that a subject for another time)
So yeah, a religious organization dedicated to the Genom.. But the Genom are declining at a rapid rate because of an “invasive species” to the Song Magic scene called Cielnotrons, which are a mechanical imitation that’s more specific and specialized. So the Chimon’s influence itself is waning on the population as a whole, and hundreds of Genom are dying out because of their dependence on human hosts who have turned to another source of Magic. Also, the sun is expanding at an alarming rate and basically only 20% of the planet, right near the pole, is even habitable. So, they might be kind of desperate.
Luckily, the Chimon are also a scientific institute- they just focus on a Genom based form of science, and focus more on DNA chains and uh, refining their soul and that sort of thing. They’re even at the point of human experimentation, and Kanon is a product of that. She’s been genetically modified to be more compatible with Cosal himself, so higher quality of songs can be achieved and maybe the restoration of the Sun is possible- or a way to get the humans on the planet to another without much harm done to the Genom. There’s a lot more to this specifically, but this is about all I can say right now before getting into the actual backbones of the world itself and going through a timeline of how everything happens.
as a side note, they also have a set of scriptures called the “arbitrator’s lawbook”, and they never actually mention the institute’s full name in either Ciel Nosurge or Ar Nosurge (Except for maybe a glossary summary).
What is one of your favorite things about your character's series? (Also hey we're kinda sorta neighbors, yay)
- i reallyreally love the multitude genres that work completely seamlessly in canon
- really really love this occasionally working together then betraying each other and not just on ogata’s part though granted he’s the one that makes the most of it
- characters are just great, terrible people i love them all….. some maybe less but yeah
- gore and violence never feels overdone either? even if noda really likes to specifically have characters stab characters via cheek
- genuinely touching moments like the persimmon scene with asirpa and sugimoto specifically really plucks my heartstrings
I heard we were having a Disgaea party? Priere from Disgaea (technically it's La Pucelle but everybody knows her from Disgaea so lets just go with that) is here and ready to rock!
Welcome!
You’ll be staying in HOUSE 101!
You’ll retain your enhanced speed, but you won’t be able to go faster than a car.
How do you feel about Dragon Quest's artstyle? I heard it's drawn by Toriyama, the same mangaka of Dragon Ball fame! Does it show? Do you like it?
ooooh thanks so much for sending in an ask about this !! i love analyzing art styles!
it’s very clearly drawn by the same guy, lol. i don’t think he changed his artstyle for dragon quest barely at all. he has a very recognizable art style and it shows in pretty much everything he draws for. however, theres a noticeable lack of really really buff dudes, lol.
i’ve never actually read/watched dragon ball because theres just wayyy too much of it for me to take in ( @v@ ) i do admire toriyama’s dedication to drawing big burly men.
the only problem id have abt the artstyle is that its got a bit of sameface. like, he’s very polished and knows what sells, and i like it (as do obviously many others) but some of the characters’ faces look totally the same. lol
