He lays the catfood on the table, swapping to papertowels. As he wipes his face he sits down to open his bag. There are couple quiet sounds and soon jumps out a cat, Bullet. Bastard doesn’t seem to want to move until Ogata opens the catfood.

“ I do. “

“ Anyway… I’m guessing that’s not letting up anytime soon… “

He’s rolling out the soggy bandages from the eye soon fishing out more to wrap around his head.

She handed to him the paper towels at his confirmation, sitting in a chair set nearby the counter afterwards. If he had been looking at Kanon around the time the cat jumped out, he might have noticed her startled gaze... Followed by that shy expression one gets when wanting to approach someone else’s cat.

No. She will not get distracted by that ca-- she, really wanted to pet the cat. She just had to pay attention to it. Kanon’s gaze kind of.. Wandered around, following the cat after a few moments as she tried to pull herself together. So the cat food was for it? So that’s what he meant... She wanted to ask questions....

Focus. “That seems to be so. The only other Ward I’ve been in since this all started was experiencing odd phenomenon, as well.” Perhaps the whole of Spirale was affected by the events happening. “Ah, umm,” She couldn’t help herself at this point. “Could I ask... What your cat’s name is?”

…Yeah, she is not a natural genius with guns. As it’s the case with most cases, and hopefully it’ll continue to be. Guns are not a thing that most people should depend on for survival or safety, ideally.

And yet, albeit not in a genius level, Battler does have a considerably easier time handling guns than Kanon, despite not having that much of an experience with them either. Perhaps it’s down to family influence. His parents are both gun enthusiasts, after all.

“Alright, then. Watch for my back while I get that fella right there.” He says, pointing to an enemy team member that he spotted crossing the field after Kanon retreated. He’s gotta go fast with this, as they are clearly looking for cover.

And as he adjusts his aims… Someone else spots them. Will Kanon manage to protect Battler?!

Seriously? Apparently they had had it easy until now, seeing as the other teams were starting to come out of the woodwork. Kanon briefly wondered if they even had anyone else on their team. And where were they? Surely they started near themselves.... It would be a little unfair, otherwise. But, Kanon had no idea how these digital games were set up, so perhaps this was a normal occurrence.

“Watch your back..” Mm, she got it. 

She stood near him as he took aim, admiring the ease at which he handled the weapon- only for a short moment, however, as she spotted the other player as they spotted them. It was a weird stand off, the split second of registering that each other had made eye contact before immediately moving to whatever goal they had decided in that split second. There was nothing she could use as a barrier to shield from the other’s attack, and they were definitely attempting to take the shot.

“Incoming!” She called to Battler, knowing she was probably too late in her warning for him to take action instead. 

Kanon crouched, sweeping her right leg out in one fluid motion that kicked up dirt and dust surrounding them. If she reacted in time, the light from the enemy’s “gun” would never reach her current partner, dispersing uselessly in the dust.

“Aw, what’s a little trash talk?”

       ‘Prim’ didn’t seem to take Kanon’s presence as any kind of threat, since they didn’t seem to raise their guard in the slightest. At best, they seemed to regard her with the same kind of attention as a puppy in the street, barking at the big human standing in front of them. 

       Cute, but otherwise pretty inconsequential. Perfect for the ‘Enlightened Sovereign’. 

“No~ can~ doooo~♫” ‘Prim’ skipped around Kanon, humming to their own tune. “And what kinda question is that? I’m here to break stuff, like everyone else!”

“I’m pretty sure that involves you too, buuuuut…” They still hadn’t drawn their weapons, nor raised their guard. Did they have no intention of fighting Kanon? “Hey hey, I got a question for ya.”

“What were you doing when Prim got taken away by Ms. Zill?”

       By the sudden shift in their tone, they intended to go somewhere with this.

“Be quiet!” Ah, there was Kanon’s catchphrase, in it’s full glory. She couldn’t really help herself, the antics of the possessed Incarnate getting on her nerves with each happily sung note, each skip in her step. The former Sovereign never really had the patience needed to deal with the mysterious person behind this Interdimend program. The mere thought of what they had done to countless Sharl, even dragging herself into it... Her blood boiled. Simmering beneath the surface, filling her with anger and disdain much faster than if it had been anyone else. Ah, but she really needed to stop saying that catchphrase before other people decide she’s too preachy. Apparently she had scared Nay and Ion too often with it back when Ra Ciela had been intact.

But the question they posed back at her, regardless of her scolding, made her pause. Huh? “....Where was I?” In fact, she hadn’t known of the presence of the Genom child until they had shown up in her shop along with Nelo and Ionasal. That had been much, much after she had parted ways with Zill. But hadn’t Prim disappeared before Delta and Casty fell into a coma? For... Two years......

“.......” She only had hazy memories of the time before Ionasal made contact with her. Of course, she sort of remembered around the time she had woken up from the ‘cold sleep’ Zill had claimed she had been in, but if you were talking about before then? The last thing she remembered was turning into energy. Dying. It was something she tried not to think about, since she was here and whole as she was now.

“I wasn’t awake yet. I was in stasis....” At least, that’s what she could ‘remember’.

Her decision was reassuring. As much he hoped not to pull her aside from her own duty, he knew well venturing out alone into danger might only make him a liability for someone else. It wouldn’t be the first time — not by a long shot. A smile case itself in the other’s direction, both of appreciative sign and muted thank you. “Yes, we’re not far off. It’ll be visible once we turn the corner at the end of this street".

Their separation from the family would come a double-edged sword: on the one hand, they would be sheltered from the danger (what little comfort that may be to natives whose homeland was crumbling all around them), yet simultaneously, Aichi predicted his agitation to dedicate his time towards the cause. His limitations were well known, his life in Spirale preparing him for any such occasion, but the desire to help as much as possible remained eternal.

Lessons of the past weren’t to be lost, however. The last thing she, as a good samaritan, should put up with was his recklessness. “I don’t have any particular strength to put towards fighting if we run into trouble, so we could always retreat should someone show up when we’re checking that spot. It’ll be a comfort that no-one else should be in harm’s way,” he added, eyes cast towards the family with a reassuring smile. “Once we’re at the hospital, we’ll see to that everything is put right again”.

As long as she could be of some help, Kanon didn’t mind doing almost anything. Of course, her efforts were best used towards helping the citizens get to safe areas, but that didn’t mean she was against doing other things. Feeling like she had thought too much on this, she set it aside. It wouldn’t do to keep rehashing this over and over in her head. Kanon had already told him she’d be going along with, so the guilty feelings she might have had towards doing so would simply have to be buried.

“Everything is put right again, hmm..? Well, I don’t have much prowress myself at this time..” Her main power was locked away, after all. “I do have some experience in battle. I don’t think we would be entirely helpless, but it does seem best to stay cautious.” Her words were spoken with a lot more confidence than she actually felt, if she was going to be honest with herself.

Upon arriving finally at the hospital, it was time for them to part ways with the family they had safely escorted there. Kanon swiftly negotiated with those that were guarding the entrance, dispelling their worries while also gaining them entrance in as few words as possible. She would glance at Aichi after doing so, offering an awkward smile as the family filed in through the doors. 

“Do you want to take a short rest before we are on our way? I believe it is best to sit down for a few minutes before we go, at least.” Ah, and.. “I should introduce myself, since we have time. You can call me Kanon.” Her title, and full name, she would save for later.

“... You, too?” She’s feeling a bit concerned, herself. Like someone wasn’t supposed to be here...

“Miss, it looks like we can take advantage of this route. We’re not far from the school district and there’s a mark on the map glowing nearby”. Cries from a boy had lured the two of them to the same scene: a family with three sons. The injured child rode on the back of his eldest brother. Caught up in the latest intense quake, they had been in dire straits and quick to take the duplicate offer of escort to the region reportedly serving as hospital and shelter.

Though she had made it her prerogative to tend to those in need of evacuation, the thought of leaving a target untouched — and thereby, permitting Ofiuco to continue — bothered him. “If you think it’s best we split up so more people can be helped, I’ll head there once we’ve gotten everyone here treated and settled”.

At this point, Kanon had met many other helpers while evacuating those who were less fortunate than her, and this boy was no exception. Their meeting was by chance, but his help was greatly needed. The shadowy enemies that stalked them through the streets as they guided the family to safety were no joke, and he seemed to know the area better than she did.

“No, I’ll come with you.” Her decision was quick, shaking her head once she heard his suggestion. “While I’m focusing on getting others to safety, the holes are important, too. It’s better if you don’t go alone.” It wouldn’t do to let him go off on his own, only to perhaps get cornered by an enemy or one of the ‘villains’ guarding the targets. Not that she could help much in a real fight, but chances of escaping if need be were higher with numbers. “We’re almost to the hospital, yes? If you’re going, we should get it over with quickly.”

       Oh boy. She wasn’t catching onto this, was she? To be fair, it wasn’t like she’d been given long to think over Prim’s strange, somewhat out-of-character greeting. But to lower her guard like this, especially during all this? She must’ve been pre~tty gullible. 

“Prim is Prim! But, Prim’s also not Prim.” An troubling giggle escaped her. “Don’t you remember me? If you don’t, I can refresh your memory!”

“Quiz time~! What was the inbuilt thing installed inside that worthless hunk of metal you all called ‘Earthes?’”

That speech pattern- Ah, fuck. 

“.. Don’t talk about him like that.” Her grip on the blue and gold naginata in her hands tightened, her eyes narrowing in consternation. She must have come from the island above, then. If you wanted an ‘enemy’ from the Soreil, this version of Prim was that. Controlled by Interdimend... Kanon didn’t want the Incarnate girl in front of her to experience that again. Prim might even still be conscious, under the stranger from another dimension’s control. 

“Leave Prim alone. Why are you even here?” Although she was calm on the surface, internally she was panicking a bit. An Interdimend user controlling an Incarnate could very easily wipe Kanon off the face of the planet in her current state. She didn’t have Cosal or the Sharl- she could only rely on her physical defense. If Prim decided to sing at this stage, what could she do?

She... She needed to find Takuya.

He slants his head, stare piercing onto her. It does look like she’s is just looking for the shelter. After a while he finally answers:

“ Do as you like. “

Head turns and he slips his arm in to open the lock. He doesn’t bother checking if she followed yet but wanders straight to the shelves. Might as well grab some cat food for the two while he’s here. 

As he returns to the front of the shop he meets her again.

“ What? Do you want catfood too? “ he asks after a while.

She tilts her head in return, watching as he seems to contemplate her existence. A tough customer, wasn’t he? Though with the current events, she could understand if he was cautious. Kanon followed him inside, immediately in search for something to dry herself off. Even if it was just a little bit. There were some washcloths and paper towels behind the front counter, so she helped herself to those. She’d definitely try to find a way to repay the owner later, so hopefully they could deal with just a few things missing for now.

“.. Huh? Catfood?” He had come back at some point, but she didn’t understand his question. “... I don’t have any cats.” If he was talking about getting food, she’d probably find that somewhere else.

“I found some paper towels, do you want to dry off?” She offered the roll to him.

       Well, this was an interesting little encounter. They didn’t exactly know most of the faces they saw here–after all, this was the first time they were meeting most of them. But there were a few exceptions. 

       For example: the white-haired woman standing right in front of her.

“Oiiiii! I thought I recognized you!” She pointed to the woman, her childlike tone on full display. “Kan… Kaaaaan…. What was it? Having trouble remembering, you were such a footnote back on the Soreil…”

       Never mind the bodies scattered around at her feet, she’s just greeting you. You know, like a ‘friend’. A friend who is extremely dangerous and might decide to kill you, if the mood strikes her.

“Christmas Cake!” She did that on purpose. “No, that’s not it…”

With everything that had been happening with the most recent events in the city, Kanon was mainly just trying to avoid getting caught by one of the many mooks pouring out of the floating island above. While supposedly ‘powers’ had been unlocked, it didn’t mean anything to her unless she was Synchronized with a Sharl or Cosal, so other than Scramble Tag, she had nothing to really defend herself. Gripping onto the naginata that had been returned to her, she turned down the street cautiously, only to see a familiar face.

“... Aren’t you.....?” Wasn’t the girl in front of her Delta and Casty’s-

“.. Excuse me?” Footnote? And Kanon wasn’t sure what Prim meant by ‘Christmas Cake’, but the tone with which she said it in didn’t make it sound pleasant.

“....” She’ll ignore that for now. “Prim? What are you doing here?” Where were her parents? Of course, Genom didn’t really follow the traditional family rules, but Prim herself tended to stick near Casty at least, right? ... Right?

The flashlight is flickering, whether it’s about to break or just running out of battery Ogata has no idea. For now it’d be good if he could just find place to take shelter for a while. Water is beating against his cloak and his face underneath the hood. With the cats (safe inside his bag) and some food on him he’s traveling a little heavier than usual and it’s starting to wear him down right now. Already missing half of the field of his vision Ogata’s not seeing very far. 

He arrives in the stairs of a petshop, small one in a quiet alleyway of Archimedes Ward that blocks just a little of the heavy wind. No hesitation Ogata grabs his rifle, knocking through the glass to open the floor. 

And of course that’s when someone arrives there. Silence fills the air for a moment.

“ …….do you need something? “

This Ward didn’t seem any better off than the others, it seems, with the lack of power and heavy storms on top of that. It wasn’t anything she was equipped to deal with, a lack of a coat among other things leading her to look rather miserable as she continued on her way through. Perhaps the only solace she could take is that most people could evacuate themselves, or hole themselves up in the sturdier buildings in the area. 

The handheld lantern she had acquired along the way not only went out, but was refusing to turn back on. Perhaps the water got to it? Kanon needed to find shelter, hopefully one with a flashlight or some food... This in mind, she was moving towards a building nearby when she heard the sounds of shattering glass. Someone was already.. breaking and entering into the petshop. She paused.

And then let out a small sigh. Hopefully the owner of the shop wouldn’t be too mad about the broken windows.. Considering they were going to have to pay for the water damage anyways. “I’m seeking shelter. Should I look elsewhere?” She brushed her soggy hair away from her face, motioning her dead lantern at him.

the golden ward is filled with water, constantly rising and falling. stores, homes, and streets are flooded over and the cries of those in need could be heard even over the destruction of infrastructure. silverash is unable to turn a blind eye in times like this, unable to stop himself from diving in, despite the threat to his personal safety, to help a family trapped in a home rapidly filling with water. 

with the only ability he has, a minor strength boost, he dives into the water, trying his best to break open the door to a house locking the family in. the wood buckles under his repeated attacks, though each takes a toll on the air reserve he has. eventually, the door caves despite the reinforcement from the water and he rushes in, surfacing to take another breath and focus on the family of three desperately wading and crying for help. 

without much time to spare, he takes the two children struggling the most in his arms, the mother who could barely breathe pushing them into his arms. he doesn’t even have time to say “i’ll be back” before the water begins rising more, so he dives with the kids, powerful kicks propelling him through the salty, murky, debris filled water. 

he surfaces as soon as he can to give the kids a chance to breathe. in that time, he does spot someone else who is evacuating others, taking lead to help them. he calls out – 

“their mother – she’s trapped – there!” he manages to gasp out. silverash cants his head in the direction where he had come from, unable to provide more insight without endangering the children.

Really.. All of this seemed to be a disaster. 

This ward in particular was flooding, the houses towards the lower side already submerged under crashing water. Kanon wasn’t used to swimming in these conditions, but was still doing her part in taking charge, guiding those evacuating in her area towards higher ground. 

Women, children, pets, elderly.. Everything was swept away in the crashing waves, swirling debris making waters even more dangerous as she moved further into Golden to look for others that needed help.

Her eyes met another, someone drenched and holding two children struggling for air.

“Mother..?” She could understand his intentions with the words. “I see, leave it to me.” Taking note of the direction he motioned towards, Kanon dove underwater, searching around for a bit before seeing a broken in door.  The woman trapped was trying to escape through the broken door herself, but had caught her leg on the doorway and wasn’t able to quite free herself. 

Taking out a talisman from her sleeve, she cast a small spell on the debris trapping the mother’s leg, loosening it enough for Kanon to yank her free. To think that she’d be using scramble tag for this.. She only had three of the paper talismans left, but hopefully she didn’t need to use any more in her current situation. At this point, the one she was rescuing had been underwater for far too long, barely moving as Kanon pulled her up to the surface. The woman started breathing when they finally made it to air, but seemed to otherwise be unconscious.

Now, where was the person she saw before? As she moved over to more solid ground so she could lie the mother down, she turned to see if she could spot the children- or the silver haired man.

Event notes! Kanon will be siding with the Stars for the most part, but not particularly because she likes them. She’ll be more focused on helping others evacuate than going after the holes, but she won’t mind tagging along if who she’s with is more inclined to do that! Kanon currently is able to use talismans to debuff defenses and cause mild damage to enemies up to 5 times a day, along with being able to hold her own in normal melee battles with her wooden spear. If she gets caught in a fight she’ll be more focused on throwing a talisman and getting away than actually contributing much to a fight, however.

Everything had been fine. Despite the lack of people she was connected to at this point, she had finally started to relax among this city and it’s citizens. Her lack of friends was only her fault, of course.

“... Well, that has gone out the window..” 

Null, the broadcast, and the entreaty by the Stars after. She didn’t know much about either group, only that the Stars were the ones that had brought them here. Null? She knew only that they were threatening the ones running it all.

One was promising what could be salvation, or was perhaps just erasing their existence after it all, and the other was trying to maintain the status quo. What side was the truth? What side would prove in her best interest?

Kanon didn’t have the power to decide, if she was honest with herself. Only being of Dwarf status in this city limited her options. What could one girl with five talismans really do? She did have a wooden naginata, but what good could that do in severing a cord? Kanon had always been rather useless in emergency situations, and now she was even more so.

Of course, she never even considered siding with the Null, even at the tempting offer of getting powers unlocked. She neither had a Cielnotron nor a Sharl to help her sing Song Magic, and her principles wouldn’t let her, even if one was suddenly available. She could get creative with things. She could team up with someone, or help organize evacuations to whatever safe zones others put in place. But...

She didn’t know if she really wanted to. Stepping up and becoming a leader in a place she still didn’t consider home, with no one she really wanted to protect, didn’t really motivate her in any way. She wasn’t Takuya, who seemed to have a compulsion to help people in any way he could. 

She was merely... Herself, an incompetent leader with no one to guide anymore.

The broadcasts ended as she mused to herself, and then the city plunged into chaos. A loud explosion was heard somewhere off in the distance, the silent breath the city had taken in anticipation expelled with force as things started to move.

In particular, the area she was currently in was hit with a mild earthquake. Not one that could knock her over, but enough to get her attention. It felt akin to the Soreil shuddering, that time it had switched power sources. She couldn't remember if such a phenomenon had happened on Ra Ciela. She just.. couldn’t remember. “...” Damn it. Changes were already taking place, it seemed, and she would be in the middle of it until she could either get to a safe place or figured out what she wanted to do.

She opened her communication device, her movements practiced and confident as she scrolled to a particular person she wanted to contact. Well, as confident as one with shaking hands could be.

DISASTER REPORT #1

OBSERVED PHENOMENON IN SPIRALE’S WARDS FROM 4/17-4/19

FIBONACCI The properties of gravity are in influx. At times it is so heavy that it is difficult to move, and others it is completely absent and allowing even the heaviest of objects to float in the sky. While this might be the most fun, be wary of falling debris or falling yourself if it suddenly shifts back to normal. It is much safer to remain in locations where there is a ceiling. 

COTES Constant earthquakes of varied intensity wrack Cotes at random intervals. Many are light and barely noticeable, but several times per day they will be strong enough to risk knocking over less fortified buildings. The school district has a foundation strong enough to function as a safe zone. 

GOLDEN Rising sea levels have brought widespread flooding into the sector, making it difficult to access wires for those that are not aquatically inclined. The constant rise and fall of water also means that people are needed to help evacuate the NPC citizens. The Spiral Dome is the safe zone in Golden, anti-flooding provisions executed to keep everyone inside safe. 

ARCHIMEDES Storm clouds swirl around Archimedes and it isn’t wracked only by heavy winds but also extreme rainfall and daunting lightning strikes. Visibility is extremely low due to the dark canopy above, and with power outages it can be very difficult to traverse the ward without portable light sources.
