TEARS STUNG AT HER CHEEKS . it was frustrating --- ever since he ‘ d returned , her big brother could barely stand to look at her . he just sulked about , never telling her what was wrong .
sayu HATED it . they used to be so close , used to share EVERYTHING , but he ‘ d been back for nearly a month and they hardly spoke .
she didn ‘ t get it . he looked so sad all the time --- no , not all the time , only when he thought she couldn ‘ t see . it was like someone had sucked the soul right out of him .
and one day she ‘ d had enough of his pretending , of his fake happiness . he gave her a simple ‘ good morning ’ and she slapped him .
perhaps it was cruel --- no , it certainly was , but sayu just couldn ‘ t TAKE IT ANYMORE . “ ever since that case , since you ‘ ve come back . . . ” she choked back a sob - the look on his face . . . but at least he finally showed some emotion --- “ it ‘ s like you . . . like you don ‘ t --- it ‘ s like you don ‘ t trust me anymore ! ” she was crying now , but her face was set in anger . “ you and dad , you won ‘ t talk about the case . i expected this from dad , light , but not from you . ”
her shoulders shook , her whole body shook . she was sad &. angry and it hurt . “ what happened light ? what is so bad that you can ‘ t tell me ? ”
what had happened to him , what had hurt him so horribly ? she just wanted to help . she wanted to help him like he ‘ d helped her . “ i ‘ m not a kid anymore , light ! i swear , whatever it is that you ‘ re trying to protect me from , whatever it is , i can take it ! i ‘ m STRONG light , let me help you . ”
