Did you have good study habits before making this blog?

Nope! I had always gotten good grades without studying whatsoever and then I got to uni and it was a whole other ball game. I desperately needed to learn how to study and teach myself discipline and that’s why I started this blog

Have you made any friends through your studyblr?

More like acquaintances and mutuals at this point

What do you think about the studyblr community?

I think it’s so helpful and accepting and supportive. I think community is a really great word to describe studyblr. I always see posts these days saying like “What you need to be a studyblr: / What you don’t need to be a studyblr” or like “Friendly reminder that you don’t have to write pretty notes and take cute study pics to be studyblr” and honestly I just don’t know where those posts are coming from because I have never seen a studyblr be anything less than helpful and willing to include everyone.

Do you do your homework as soon as you get home or late at night?

It depends on the day or my mood but I tend to get my work done as early as possible because I’m more productive at the start of the day than at the end

What is your favorite stationery?

I’m not sure if this is referring to a certain category of stationery? Like pens/highlighters/notebooks... I love starting a new notebook and I love planners (but I only use 1 planner at a time, many use 3 planners but that just ain’t me)... And I really like graph paper!

How do I college??? How does one go about buying or renting books for cheap? I don’t have $700 to spend at the campus bookstore & I know people have told me there are cheaper places to buy textbooks. I can find some used ones online for cheaper but the ISBN thingys aren’t exactly the same?? Is that bad or is it not a problem? And even when I find one with the same ISBN, it’s still like $160 for the book & that’s still way too much. What am I supposed to do?

Textbooks are horrendously expensive. Strategies for rorting the system will differ from campus to campus - here are some things to check out though.

If you’re after legal means: 

Amazon and The Book Despository sometimes have cheap or used copies of textbooks. I’ve never bothered much checking the ISBN, just the authors and edition (maybe get a second opinion on that, though, I don’t tend to buy books online). Check with your course coordinators to see if previous editions are okay as well. 

A number of sites coordinate textbook exchanges. They differ from area to area, so google secondhand textbooks, and the name of your university or the subjects you’re taking, and see if you have any luck. 

University libraries will often have textbooks in a 2-hr loan section. This is a pain in the arse, but it’s possible to do all your readings at the library if you plan your time well. Photocopy anything you’re going to need for reference. 

Get in touch with your SRC or equivalent student organisation. USyd’s runs an incredible book exchange which buys secondhand textbooks and sells them for significantly less than market price. They can still be a little expensive, though. 

Search Facebook for groups pertaining to the subjects you’re taking. My uni has a bunch of groups for different majors, and they’re great places to put a callout for a secondhand book. There are sometimes facebook groups dedicated purely to textbook exchange. 

Some textbooks or textbook sections are available online through the university library. Use the login credentials the uni gives you and search them on the library database. You may find something helpful. 

If you’re less concerned about legality: 

Googling textbook name + pdf will usually turn up a copy if the textbook is relatively common. There are also a number of sites floating around in tumblr masterlists dedicated to providing free textbooks. I can’t think of any off the top of my head, but if anyone has a link to a masterpost, feel free to add it to this post.
