How It Could Have Been || killingforsport
He'd known it as soon as she'd entered the clearing. As soon as she'd started calling to Blue and the others. How could he not have realized it before? The signs were all there, albeit a good three times bigger than he was used to and altered due to the T-Rex base. No wonder the lab had never said what had been included in the Indominus...if anyone had known she was part raptor, the entire thing would have been scrapped.
And now this entire mission was in jeopardy. The Indominus was larger than he was, stronger, a figure Blue and her sisters would instantly respect - or at least fear - and she could communicate in their language. His four girls were already looking back, their eyes trained on him as if waiting for something. A sign, but from him or their possible new Alpha? Owen felt his breath stop for a moment. If that thing was part raptor...and if his bond with Blue and the others was strong enough...he had a chance to save lives right here.
"Hold your fire!" he shouted, pushing himself up and locking eyes with Blue. Around him men were staring as if he'd just gone insane - he was aware, distantly, of Barry's cursing in French and Hoskins yelling over the comm - but his focus was entirely on the raptors, and on the fifty-foot behemoth behind them. If he wasn't careful, if he'd guessed wrong, he was about to die.
Blue was silent, watching him as closely as she always did as he climbed over the tree trunk and took first one step, then another towards them. Owen wasn't stupid or suicidal enough to go farther than a few yards from the line of ACU agents behind him, but even that much was enough. Or so he hoped. His eyes flicked from Blue to the Indominus as he made a show of pointing his gun at the sky, then slinging the strap over one shoulder. "Easy, Blue...easy, girl..."
