Stoneware glaze firing in the kiln, sgraffito tiles
How I make my "kiln cookies" to protect the kiln shelves from glaze drips when firing ceramics! :] Especially when making some weird experiment or using a new glaze. Bird group pic! Most of these will be gifts for my huge ass family (thankfully nothing bad happened in the kiln because I have not bought *anyone* Christmas gifts)
A quick look at what I put on the bottoms-
Each sculpture has my signature, which is this funky little symbol thing I've been using since middle school. (It's my old nickname written in a cypher I made up in the sixth grade.)
They also get the year, and a number that helps me keep track of them in my glaze notebook.
Four whistles I sculpted! They each have a cool unique tone. I think the swirly orange one is my favorite.
Cosmic Tea Dust:
The sparkle!
The glamour!
Love it.
Temmoku!
Everything that is just plain temmoku turned out super gorgeous!
I wish I'd done even more with this.
Croc Blue: It did not turn out blue for the most part.
Most of the pieces turned out a kind of dreary dark gray.
I do love a good gray, but, I'm giving most of these birds out for Christmas, so I was hoping for a more colorful assemblage for the relatives.
Though they ended up with this cool 'raindrops on car windows' pattern.
I did get a couple pieces where the blue shows thru really well though! (And it looks a lot nicer in person)
