“Sir, we just don’t know. The scientists of the case have no explanation for the phenomenon. We can see her, but she’s like a spirit. Nothing we say affects her, and she can move through solid objects without resistance. It’s like she isn’t even here anymore.”
Night sat in the back seat of the squad car, heading after his mysteriously vanishing daughter. Was this related to how she arrived here, perhaps? Would this timeline reject those who did not belong in it? Such a thing had never happened before, so they just didn’t know.
“Keep following her. Let me know if-”
“Gods! What the-...are you serious? Confirm, officer!”
The second officer was visibly pale as he turned to address Night directly, looking as though he might be sick. It took him a minute to actually be able to speak.
“Sir...your daughter, she...she’s dead. She was suddenly injured, and stopped moving about a minute ago. It looks almost like something....crushed her, sir.”
So it was true, then. She’d been snapped back to her original time...and the Void had found her. She was so young...so precious, the last living thing that connected him to his lost wife. The pain was almost more than what he could bear. He broke down, sobbing in to his hands, completely disconnected from the world. He had truly lost everything that he had ever loved...
