Please welcome [ KIM, JINTAE ], a [ 30 ] year old [ PUREBLOOD ] wizard. Raised as a [ KOREAN ], [ JINTAE ] is currently working at Hogwarts as the [ CARE OF MAGICAL CREATURES ] professor and is in the [ HUFFLEPUFF ] house. He is also a [ WEREWOLF ].
▍ – * character's traits & personality
Because Jintae was locked up during one of the most influential developmental stages of his life, and even imposed isolation upon himself, he struggles with performance anxiety and is unable to read certain social queues or is very slow in picking up on them. As a result, he can appear to be disgruntled, bumbling and awkward upon first meeting him. To some this is an endearing trait to his otherwise cold and indifferent exterior, but to others it can be a source of discomfort and frustration.
Generally speaking, he is a very kind and quiet man. He has what many call a wide-eyed resting “zoned out” expression, as he often gets lost in his own thoughts. Common complaints among students are that he falls asleep during written in-class assignments; he sometimes rambles too much too fast in his excitement; or that he becomes verbally aggressive in his frustrations. Because of his lycanthropy, he does become frustrated easily which can be intimidating to younger or new students. He has a number of different breathing exercises that he’ll perform on the spot, and those usually help him reign in. If it’s close to a full moon, he will often excuse himself and take a short jog around the area they’re in before returning back to class. He rarely ever smiles, unless he becomes excited about a topic, or if someone tells a good joke. He’s a huge loser for puns and often drops a few of his own—many of which go missed because of his seemingly indifferent expressions.
Despite being very open in discussing his lycanthropy, he is very much a private man and doesn’t speak much about his past unless absolutely necessary. He has never been in any kind of romantic relationship, despite having a couple of crushes during his years at Hogwarts. He has resigned himself to a life of celibacy and bachelorhood due to his lack of confidence in maintaining his curse, anyone wanting him /because/ of his curse, and because of his own personal self-confidence issues.
Not much seems to scare Jintae. He works with all manner of beasts and magical beings, and appears most comfortable in their presence than with human people. His fears draw from within himself. Even though he would sooner find an excuse to ditch a dinner party, he hates the idea of being completely alone and struggles with loneliness and a lack of companionship as he doesn’t have anyone that he considers a true friend. He holds everyone at an arm’s length, and has been held at such a length by everyone around him for as long as he has been a werewolf. His father rarely keeps in touch, and Jintae struggles with the concept of being his father’s “greatest disappointment”: the one case he couldn’t solve; the one child he couldn’t save.
When not working with animals, performing professor-responsibilities or performing activist activities, Jintae likes to spend his time playing music. He picked up acoustic guitar during his earlier years as a creative outlet. He also has a terrible habit of collecting small knicknacks that carry some kind of personal sentimental value to him. He also spends a lot of time reading and playing around with his cat, Dweiji II. The cat follows him everywhere, even to class.

Jintae Kim was born to a pureblood witch and wizard in Busan, South Korea. His father was a respected Auror whose specialty surrounds missing persons cases. His father had been one of the many Aurors whom had moved to Europe temporarily to help with the uprising of werewolves in the mid-60s, and had found many of the children that had been attacked and kidnapped. His work did not go unnoticed by those in the wizarding world, and especially those in the magical beings community that had survived the uprising. With whispers of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named threatening to have returned, the Kims had decided to remain in Europe to offer their services and to make sure that there wouldn’t be another uprising like the had experienced in the 60s.
In 1980, the Kims welcomed their new son, Jintae, into the world. However, due to the nature of their work, the Kims were forced to move around a lot for the sake of their safety with the rise of Dark magical activity from magical beings and the like.
When he received his acceptance letter into Seoul’s School for Witches and Wizards, his parents were elated at the opportunity for him to meet new people and learn more about the world in which they lived. However, while celebrating his admittance by the beach, they were attacked by a pair of werewolves that had been seeking revenge against the Aurors. Jintae not only lost his mother that night, he also lost his humanity to the curse of lycanthropy after just barely surviving the attack.
Mr. Kim was at a loss as to what to do with his son. He brought him before medical professionals in the hopes of stopping the curse before it had the chance to completely destroy him before the first full moon, but there was nothing that could be done to save the boy. His father pulled him from his first year before he had a chance to even see the school grounds, and spent the entire school year learning to cope with his curse and developing judgmental and impatient nature from his father. During the summer, headmaster Dumbledore came to him with Remus Lupin and expressed that there had been enough improvement in the boy that he would be able to join as a first year as a Hufflepuff with his cat돼지 (Dwaeji).
Jintae’s experience at Hogwarts was spent in the shadow of the legend of Harry Potter and his friends. He watched as his classmates were attacked by the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets; the escape of Sirius black; watched the Triwizard tournament; survived the wrath of Professor Umbridge (not without extreme prejudice due to his registered lycanthropy); and even participated in the Second Wizarding War.
The anxieties wrought by his curse made the young teenager become something of an anti-social recluse. It was rare that he allowed himself to be in the company of other students after school hours. He spent most of his spare time alone reading, or trying to spend time with the animals that were kept on the school grounds. During full moons, he would try to use the Room of Requirement to lock himself away until the curse passed. If he couldn’t, he would get permission to be outside after hours under the supervision of a professor.
During the attack on Hogwarts, Jintae had been pulled aside by Greyback and there was an attempt to persuade him into joining his pack. The entirety of Jintae’s youth had been a constant struggle of trying to understand who he was and accepting what he has become. During that time the temptation to succumb to the darkness; to give into the rage and savageness of his werewolf side that his father despised in him so much was so powerful that he had very seriously considered the offer. But after seeing the strength of his fellow classmates, and after having a talk with some of them, he found the courage to put more trust in his humanity and he persevered.
He graduated with distinction in Care of Magical Creatures and after Hagrid’s resignation he applied for the position not only because of his personal interest in teaching the subject, but he also hoped that he could potentially use himself as an example to the young people at Hogwarts that those with the lycanthropy curse are not inherently evil. He has made sure that all of the faculty and students are aware of his condition, and allows himself to be available to students to talk to should they have any questions.
During his off-hours, he is reading up on the developing Magical Beings crisis and tries to serve as a peaceful activist.
