I have to get this off my chest

so, I was on twitter today and I saw some armys bashing jongin’s dancing just to praise jimin’s, and I absolutely have to say this.

firstly, I love bts.  I identify as an army, though sometimes the fandom gets so toxic I feel like I’m suffocating in carbon monoxide, but I stay for the boys. 

secondly, I love exo even more.  exo was THE group that piqued my interest and got me into kpop, and kim jongin became my ultimate bias immediately upon first sight.  the way he danced, the way his eyes light up on stage, the humble way he carries himself, his unapologetically loud laugh, and his fun-loving personality hooked me on him, and I still can’t get enough of him. 

it’s CLEAR that bts is a strong dance group, despite namjoon and seokjin.  jungkook, hoseok, and jimin define a dance line, and yoongi and taehyung can hold their own.  however, exo is CLEARLY a strong dance group as well.  jongin, sehun, and yixing define what it means to be a dance line too.  baekhyun and minseok are also very talented dancers, and the others do fine and keep up with the group just fine. 

jimin is a main dancer of bts.  that’s amazing, and armys and jimin should be proud of that.

jongin is a main dancer of exo.  that’s also amazing, and exo-ls and jongin should be proud of that.

I will not and cannot deny the fact that jimin is an incredibly talented dancer, however, I will not just sit here and idly stand by while “armys” are talking shit about jongin and discrediting all the work he’s put in to come to where he is and bashing his dance. 

jongin’s dance is art.  what I mean by that is he’s graceful, smooth, and puts emotion into every movement he makes.  I’m not a dancer, and I’m not trained in identifying what makes a dance or a dancer good, but I’ve read things about jongin and seen what other dancers have said about him, and I’m going to regurgitate it here. 

jongin was trained in ballet as a child.  he has practiced and learned different styles of dance.  he did not become a main dancer of exo, an SM GROUP (because, let’s be real–SM’s dance is on another level), by being “untalented” and “boring” and “like any common dancer.”  jongin has received PROFESSIONAL praise for his skills, and MANY other idols (including taemin for God’s sake) have praised his dancing and he is considered one of the best dancers in kpop by the best themselves.  I cannot believe that some of you have the audacity to sit there, behind a screen anonymously, and trash a man whose love, passion, and LIFE is dancing.  jimin is a fantastic dancer, do not get me wrong, but jongin is on another level.  my untrained eye can see there’s something special in the way jongin moves, so if professionals see it and praise him for it, my guess is he isn’t just hype.

I’m also not trying to say that it’s wrong to PREFER someone else’s style of dance, but I’ll tell you what IS wrong.  slandering, putting down, and trashing other idols in general is not okay.  personal preference is fine.  we all have it.  however, don’t you dare discredit jongin or ANY OTHER IDOL for that matter.  each and every single one of them has put in work to be where they are, and you have to respect that.  you don’t have to like them, but show some goddamn respect.  grow up a little.  people like jongin don’t deserve that kind of childish, rude bullshit from people between the ages of 13 to 22 behind a screen.  fuck off. 

also, please let it be known that I’m not trying to trash all armys either.  I know it isn’t all of you.  hell, I know it isn’t most of you.  in this particular instance however, armys were the perpetrators.  I’m just trying to get this message out for every fan and every idol.
