What one piece of advice would you give to every makeup artist? It's as simple and as difficult as “Identify your gift.” We all have talents and skills; it's when you identify your true gift that you can really shine and live your best self. It helps you define your distinctiveness as an artist, and your personal brand, to stand out. We all have a gift. It's usually what we feel most passionate about when we do it. When you identify it, focus on it and build your career around it, you do your best work, and become known for it! This is essential in the competitive beauty industry we work in. You can be great in a lot of areas and have well rounded skills, but what is your gift?
What is the key to your success in our industry? I believe it's a combination that I have been true to for 25 years: 1) Authenticity in who I am and my work. I do what I love and never try to be someone or do work that is not me. 2) Integrity and commitment to deliver my best work and be a professional, always 3) Building a small, but strong network of like-minded people where we support each others career
How do you continue to grow your business? I am constantly learning, growing and evolving, and bringing those new ideas, approaches and strategies to my work. It keeps me inspired and delivering my best work. I am also always in contact with my network. It's the key to everyone's success, not matter who you are or what you do. I have gotten every job for 25 years through my network, never by sending a resume.
