KIM GUSH: A CAREER FASTRACKED

Kim Gush, whose avant-garde approach to menswear has cemented her in the mind's of the fashion industry as a shooting star to watch, has had quite a year. From a debut collection (pictured below) at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg (through the AFI FASTRACK program) to being announced the ultimate winner of the Young Designer of the Year Award at the Africa Fashion Awards in October, Kim has a promising career ahead of her. 

FRONT ROW: What have you gained from the journey?

I think that most of what I have learnt has been what not to do, which in many ways is more beneficial that learning what to do. The exposure has definitely been exception and I have already been able to build a great following. The journey doesn't end here - I am learning something new, every day. 

FRONT ROW: What are your plans going into 2013?

I am working to get my latest range in stores for the first time, to make it more accessible for everyone who is asking, "Where do I buy Kim Gush?". As to which stores, they are till to be confirmed, but for now orders can still be placed through my website www.kimgush.co.za. 

FRONT ROW: What advice do you have for graduates who are leaving school and entering the market in 2013?

Get a job! Get a job and learn as much as you can before trying to make it on your own. The contacts and industry information will be priceless and it will make starting up something of your own much easier. It will also be cheaper as the lessons learnt will save you the costly mistakes.

AFI FASTRACK RETAILS AT FOSCHINI

FRONT ROW stopped in at Foschini to have a look at the merchandise on offer from 2012's FASTRACK finalists. Under the label AFI Fastrack, the designs of Kim Gush, Wetive Nkosi and Kyra-Moon Halfpenny have been selling at select Foschini stores nationwide. The stores include Sandton City, Gateway and Canal Walk. 

FRONT ROW took a few pictures of what is left - according to the merchandiser in the Sandton store, the collection has been selling fast.
