Roman trying to connect with Kimiko and win Owen over

Awww!! Roman trying to win over two geniuses at the same time? I love it!

Roman frowned down at his phone and bit his lip. He was still reading over the texts his sister had sent when he asked for her advice

Apparently he was in way over his head

Roman only wanted to get a date with Owen. Which was a lot harder than he thought. Not only did Deckard and Hattie get in Roman's way, there was another factor that kept taking Owen's attention

His daughter, Kimiko

Not that Roman had any ill will against her. She was adorable, clever, and just like her dad. He could only imagine how much mischief she could get up to

After texting his sister, Roman knew he should take her advice

If he wanted to win over Owen, he would have to win over Kimiko as well

Which Roman didn't mind at all

He just didn't have a single clue as to how to go about it

Roman prided himself on being a good uncle, but he had been there ever since his niece had been born. He had only just met Kimiko a few months ago, only seeing her during the occasional barbecue

What was the best way to win her over?

She was a Shaw, so maybe sweets? Or would that look too weird?

Maybe a present? But he didn't want her or Owen to think he was buying their affection

There had to be something both father and daughter would enjoy that would get him a date with Owen

Hearing his phone chime, Roman read over his sister's text

Bring his kid on the date

Huh. That could work. But he didn't think Kimiko would enjoy a fancy restaurant

Thinking back, Roman remembered the first time he had been introduced to Kimiko

Owen had been helping her lace up a pair of skates, Sam impatiently skating around them and waiting for her cousin to play with her. Roman had seen another pair of skates next to Owen, much bigger

Suddenly, Roman had an idea

Kimiko swung her legs, softly hitting the front of her dad's legs as she sat on his lap

They were at Nowhere, her dad talking to people about something. She had stopped paying attention when she learned it wasn't about any secret missions

She leaned back into his chest and smiled as his arms tightened around her. It was great that he was back and spending more time with her

But her ears perked up when she heard someone enter the meeting room

She watched as Roman came in, a duffle bag hanging off his shoulder. He greeted some of the people her dad had been meeting with, flashing a smile at everyone

Eventually, his eyes landed on her and she smiled and waved at him. He was funny and she liked his smile

"Hey, Kimi, Owen." Roman greeted them and sat down next to them

"I didn't think you'd be here, Pearce." Ber dad said, a hint of confusion in his voice

"Well, I heard you two would be here and I wanted to ask you a favor."

Kimiko's eyes lit up with excitement

"A favor? What is it?" She asked, sitting up straight and ignored the disapproving clicking noise her dad made

"Well," Roman smiled at her and pulled the duffle bag onto his lap. "I just got these new skates and I was wondering if you two could teach me how to use them."

Kimiko leaned forward, confident that her dad would keep a strong hold on her so she wouldn't go tumbling forward

She watched as Roman pulled out a pair of skates. The leather was painted with intricate flames and the wheels were a glittery black

Gasping, Kimiko looking up at Roman

"Can I have a pair like that?" She begged, looking between her dad and Roman. Her dad was giving her an unimpressed look, but before he would say anything, Roman spoke up

"I can get a second pair, but for a price."

Kimiko twisted her face into a serious expression. She could talk business

"Name it." She said firmly

"Kimi..." Her dad sighed behind her

"You and your dad teach me how to skate."

Kimiko thought for a second

"We will attempt, it's not our fault if you don't understand. Deal?" She stuck her hand out

Roman blinked at her before chuckling and shaking her hand firmly

"Deal."

Kimiko smiled brightly up at her dad as he rolled his eyes fondly

What could be better than this? She gets a new pair of skates and her dad might finally get a boyfriend! About time!

Hey Omni! How about, Owen accidentally makes a dad joke in front of the team and the team’s loosing their minds ‘Cuz 1. Owen Shaw just made a joke 2. It’s a really bad one and Dom puts two and two together and he’s like, “you’re a father?” ‘Cuz why else would he have such bad jokes?

Omg, yesss! I love this! I can absolutely see Owen embracing dad jokes when he becomes a dad. However. I can also see him making bad, corny jokes when he's not a dad too 😂

Owen was firmly keeping his eyes on his phone while he listened to the Toretto crew talk all around him. Leaning back in his chair, Owen had his feet up on the meeting table they were all sat around

He really wished he was somewhere else at the moment

Anywhere else

But Deckard had dragged him along with the crew's latest mission. That was until Hobbs suspiciously dragged Deckard away from everyone else

Now, left alone with a group of people who didn't particularly like him, and he definitely didn't like, Owen wished he was anywhere else

And had earbuds, because the crew was talking constantly

"You can't just declare what the kid's going to grow up as." Ramsey told Roman firmly. "He's only two!"

"Oh come on!" Roman threw his hands up. "Baby Brian is either going to be the best cop or the best criminal ever. No debate over it!"

"Rome, knock it off." Letty snapped.

"Nah, he has a point." Tej spoke up. "With who his parents are, it's going to be impossible for the kid to do anything else."

"How about you let the kid decide who he grows up to be." Dom rumbled

And then Owen said something he wish he never had

"I don't know," he said, not realizing he had gotten everyone's attention. "My mum said I could grow up to be anything I wanted. And then I learned identity theft was a crime."

He was still on his phone and not paying attention as everyone in the room stared at him in shock

After a few moments of quietness, Owen looked up and stared back

"What?" He snapped

"Did he just make a joke?" Tej stage whispered to Roman

"Who knew Deckard wasn't the only Shaw with a sense of humor."

Owen glared at them and was about to bite their heads off when Dom spoke up

"That was a horrible joke." He said simply and narrowed his eyes at Owen

"Want to point other obvious shite out-"

"-So bad in fact," Dom continued. "That it could have been a dad joke."

Owen fell silent

"You a dad, Shaw?"

Owen glared at him

"Fuck off." He hissed

"Really?"

Owen blinked and looked at Letty who was looking at him strangely

"Usually you can't shut up about Kimiko." Letty continued.

"Kimiko?" Dom asked

"His daughter." Letty told him. "She's adorable and a true troublemaker."

"That doesn't surprise me." Ramsey mumbled

Now, all of them were looking at him with curiosity and Owen hated it

"Well, do we get to see pictures?" Dom smirked

Owen was going to yell at Deckard for bringing him

Sighing, Kimiko frowned and passed a hand through their now much shorter hair. Instead of the long, straight hair they had since childhood, they now had short, shaggy hair

Maybe not the best hairstyle, but Kimiko hadn't been going for that. Just anything to help them feel more comfortable in their skin

With their long hair gone, they didn't look like a girl as much as they had. Now, they could definitely see more of their father's features in their face

But the issue was, Kimiko hadn't asked their dad or Roman to take them to get their hair cut

Instead, they had asked a friend to go with them as it was almost all cut off

Nervously, Kimiko looked at themself in a small, portable mirror. Their dads shouldn't get too upset with them

Or at least, that's what they were hoping

Putting the mirror away, Kimiko finally entered their apartment building and took the elevator up to Roman's penthouse

Opening the door, Kimiko was greeted by the sound of the TV going. Fidgeting, Kimiko took a breath and closed the door

"Hey, da!" They called out. "I'm home!"

"Welcome back!" He called back. "Wanna watch with me?"

"Sure."

Straightening their back, Kimiko walked into the living room and smiled at how their dad was lounging on the couch

His small goatee had spots of grey in it, along with his roots in his much longer hair. He looked away from the TV and flashed Kimiko a smile

"Our team is winning so far."

Smiling back shyly, Kimiko walked up

"Good to hear it. They've been doing good this season."

With only a small amount of hesitation, Kimiko sat down and cuddled into their dad. Who brought a hand up to stroke their hair

"Any shorter and I would think you signed up for the army." He chuckled

Biting their lip, Kimiko glanced up at him

"Do you not like it?"

"It suits you." He smiled and then looked thoughtful. "But it'll be hard to braid. I remember that being annoying for me when I cut my hair short."

"Really?" Kimiko looked at him closely

"Mmhm. I always loved having my hair braided by Uncle Deck as a kid. But it was nice getting it cut, too. Made me feel more comfortable with who I was."

Kimiko blinked at him in surprise, but felt a smile nearly split their face in half

They shouldn't have even bothered being worried about their dad being upset

He was just like them after all

I just rewatched Spiderman:Homecoming, and all I can think about is Owen giving Kimiko the "I just wanted to be like you!" "I want you to be better" speech. Could you write a small drabble please? Thank you so much! You are amazing ❤️

Oh gosh, I always love playing with the idea of Owen not always wanting his daughter to follow in his footsteps. And that scene would work spectacularly for these two!

Owen couldn't help the fury growing inside him as he paced back and forth. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Kimiko sitting stiffly on the couch, head bowed and chin resting on their chest. Between them was the coffee table, piled high with gold jewelry and priceless gems

All of which had been stolen

Grinding his teeth, Owen stopped his pacing and stood in front of Kimiko

They were covered in dirt, clothes slightly tinged, and a few scraps and bruises

"Do you have any bloody idea how badly tonight could have gone?" He hissed, not able to keep his frustration and irritation out of his voice

Raising Kimiko, Owen had always tried to be gentle with his scolding so Kimiko could learn from their mistakes properly. But not this time. Not when they had almost gotten themselves killed

"If I hadn't shown up when I did, you could have been seriously hurt! Or even killed!"

His voice was raised on the last word, making Kimiko flinch. It was rare that anyone in the Shaw family yelled at them

"Da, I'm sorry-"

"If you were sorry, you wouldn't have gone against my word!"

Kimiko's head snapped up and they let out a small snarl

"I am sorry! I didn't mean for this to happen! I didn't mean for you to get called to save my arse out of a burning building!"

"One that you set on fire yourself."

"For a distraction! You always told me fire distracted anyone!"

Owen didn't say anything to that. He had said that. Mostly because he wanted Deckard to focus on his burnt kitchen and not the international incident Owen had caused the same day

"And why were you there in the first place? I don't remember giving you permission to visit jewelry stores in the middle of the night."

"Because they had just gotten the biggest emerald in all of Europe!" Kimiko grew slightly abashed and looked away, bitting their lip. "And I wanted to get you something for you birthday."

"Mu birth-? Kimi! I don't want you stealing just to get me something! I don't want you stealing at all!"

"Why not?!" Kimiko shouted, jumping to their feet. "You're one of the best thieves ever! I just wanted to be like you, da!"

"And I want you to be better person than I am!" Owen shouted back

Panting slightly, Owen clenched his fists as he saw the equally upset his child was sending him

"So, it's a do as I say, not as I do kind of thing?" Kimiko sneered at him. "I thought you were better than that, da."

Owen bristled at their tone and opened his mouth to speak, but was cut off

"I just wanted to be like you, turns out I can't even do that." Kimiko spat and turned away, racing to their room

Closing his eyes and steadying his breathing, Owen heard a door slam. He knew Kimiko wouldn't be coming out anytime soon

Sighing, he opened his eyes and stared down at the large emerald gleaming back up at him

Hello! Awwww!! That's a very cute idea! Kimiko would love Letty so much and be so happy to have an aunt in her life

Raising her arms above her head, Letty stretched them and yawned. It was already ten in the morning when she woke up, surprised Kimiko hadn't come running into her room to wake her up

Because Deckard was out of town at the moment, Owen and Kimiko were staying with her for the moment. Letty didn't mind at all. In fact, it was nice to have more noise in her lonely apartment

A lot of noise because Kimiko had gotten an equally beautiful singing voice from her father

Walking down the hallway from her own bedroom, Letty stopped by the guest room Owen and Kimiko were sharing. Opening the door quietly, Letty peeked inside

She stiffled a laugh when she saw Owen still asleep, laying on his front. Kimiko was sitting on his back and braiding his now much longer hair

"Kimi!" Letty hissed. "What are you doing?"

The little girl swiveled her head around and smiled widely when she saw Letty

"Making Da pretty!"

Letty giggled at that

"Come on, let's go make breakfast." Letty motioned her closer

Kimiko scrambled off Owen and the bed, with Owen only grunting in discomfort at the action. Smiling down at Kimiko, Letty took her hand and they walked to the kitchen together

"Aunt Let?"

"Yeah?"

"Do I have to go to school tomorrow?" Kimiko asked with big eyes

"Yes."

"But, Aunt Let-!"

"Not buts." Letty said firmly and met Kimiko's eyes. "I know you don't want to have to present in your literature class, but you have to go."

Kimiko pouted up at her

"That's what Da said, too." She mumbled grumpily

Letty smirked and shook her head. Of course Kimiko would try the whole, if one said no ask the other tactic. Luckily she and Owen were in sync so Kimiko didn't normally get away with that one

"Come on, honey. Let's just have fun today, so you don't have to think about tomorrow."

"Fine." Kimiko sighed dramatically

"So, what do you want to do today?" Letty asked as she grabbed ingredients out for waffles

"Can we go rollerskating?" Kimiko asked, instantly perking up

"Why not? I'm sure your dad will be happy to show off."

Letty giggled with Kimiko as they both imagined the tricks Owen would pull while skating

It was going to be a good day

"Tyler! Kimiko! How many times have I told you not to leave the anemone!" Roman shouted as he desperately tried to grab his children's tails

Instead, two little shark tails flew past his hand and further into the coral reef. He could hear their laughter as they swam past all sorts of mers. But the older mers glared at the children

The neighborhood had always hated having Owen and their children in the coral reef. They couldn't understand how Roman could invite a shark into their mists

It was well known that sharks were very solitary creatures and would often find their own territory and rarely let anyone in

But Owen had left his mother's territory and had joined Roman in his favorite anemone. They had their children there and Owen been keeping his mischief to a minimum when he was there

However, Owen was currently visiting Deckard and his children, leaving Roman left alone with Kimiko and Tyler

How Roman wished they had been clownfish and not sharks like Owen

Maybe then people would let their children play with them and allow them to burn off some of their energy. As it was at the moment, he was the sole playmate they had the moment

Roman flicked his tail and tried to follow after his two rambunctious children, calling their names the entire time. And if he knocked into some of the people throwing his kids those looks, then so be it

It was dark when Owen finally arrived back at the anemone. He had wanted to be home sooner, but his hunting had taken much longer than he anticipated. But at least he had caught his children's favorite type of cuttlefish

The moonlight shone on the coral reef beautifully, as he heard the soft sounds of the nocturnal mers going about their business

He didn't mind living in the reef, but he always questioned if maybe they should live closer to Deckard and his children. They might not be sharks, but they would love seeing their cousins more

Swimming up to their anemone, Owen peeked his head inside and smiled at the scene he saw

Roman was curled around Kimiko and Tyler, their little tails wrapped around Roman's arms. They all looked extremely peaceful sleeping in the moonlight

Moving closer, Owen laid down next to Roman with their children between them

Crossing her arms, Letty watched with a narrowed gaze as Owen handed out everyone's pay for the job they just finished.

If anyone else looked at Owen, they would see their fearless leader looking calm and collected. Not a hair out of place

But Letty knew better

Owen was ready to collapse

Even if he was as exhausted as she assumed he was, she knew he would never show that weakness around the crew. He would wait until they were alone

Keeping quiet, Letty watched as each member of the crew trickled out, until finally, it was just her and Owen

Pushing off the wall she was leaning against, she strolled over to Owen, who was organizing the last of the money

"I'm taking a cut from yours." He told her, not bothering to look up as she stopped right next to him. "You owe me a new car."

Letty let out a snort

"It wouldn't have been crushed if you actually drove good cars."

"Forgive me for not loving your bloody muscle cars when they're the most hideous thing out there."

"Hey, don't go knocking them. You were the one who bought me one."

"Kind of regretting it now." Owen mumbled. He was still focused on cleaning up blueprints and other things

Letty frowned and grabbed his wrist

"Owen." She said gently, and he finally met her eyes. "When was the last time you slept?"

Owen narrowed his eyes and yanked his arm away from you

"None of your business." He looked away from her

Letty wasn't having any of it

She grabbed his chin and forced his head back around to look at her

"Owen Shaw. Don't you dare bullshit me." She snapped. "You look like you haven't slept in over 30 hours."

For a moment, anger flashed across his face, but soon enough, only bone deep exhaustion remained

"Try 50." He huffed

"What the hell, Oh?" Letty hissed and finally released him. "That's it. Grab what you need, I'm driving you home."

"What-"

"No!" Letty said firmly and pointed a finger in his face. "I do not trust you behind a wheel right now. Now, either you come with me willingly, or I'm knocking you out. Your choice."

Owen glared down at her

"Don't try me, Shaw."

Sighing, he grabbed his own duffle of money and followed her out

"How come I've never been to your place?" Letty asked, parking the car.

"Cause it's not my place." Owen threw over his shoulder as he got out

"What do you mean?" Letty frowned and followed him. She had to almost jog to catch up with his long strides

"I mostly stay with my brother." He explained

"Why?"

"Cause he willingly cleans up after me for free." Owen smirked

"You're an entitled brat, you know that." Letty drawled

Owen simply shrugged

They entered an elevator and after several floors, they reached their destination. Letty had to wonder what Owen's brother was like. Owen had talked about him in the past, but this would be the first time she would be meeting him

I just hope he's not a carbon copy of Owen, Letty thought to herself

Finally, Owen was opening the door to a large apartment, where delicious smells wafted from

"Deck?" Owen called out and stepped inside, closely followed by Letty

"Daddy!" A shrill voice filled the room

Letty stared wide eyed as a little girl came running from the kitchen and right into Owen's open arms

"Kimi! It's so good to see you, sweetheart." Owen laughed and kissed the girl's cheeks. "Have you been behaving for Uncle Deck?"

"Yeah!" She nodded vigorously "I'm helping him make dinner!"

"Is that right?" Owen smiled at her

"It would have been nice to know I'd be cooking for four tonight." Another voice called out

Tearing her eyes away from Owen and his apparent daughter, Letty saw a man coming around the kitchen island, a large knife in his hand

"Sorry, Deck. Let didn't give me a choice. She thought I wouldn't be able to drive." Owen explained and walked further into the apartment

"A call would have been nice." Owen's brother mumbled and put the knife down. He walked towards Letty and gave her a comforting smile

But somehow, Letty could still sense the danger coming off of him in waves

"Deckard Shaw. The one tasked with dealing with Owen and his messes." He put his hand out and Letty readily shook it

"Letty Ortiz. Also forced to deal with Owen."

That made Deckard's smile widen

"Come on, dinner's almost ready."

Letty nodded and watched him head back into the kitchen while she moved closer to where Owen was sitting on the couch with the little girl

She seemed to finally notice Letty was there as she hid half of her face in Owen's shoulder

"Kimi, I want you to meet my friend, Letty." Owen said gently, rubbing her back. "Let, this is Kimiko, my daughter."

"Nice to meet you." Letty waved at her

She hoped she was hiding her shock well enough

"Do you work with my da?" Kimiko asked quietly

"Yeah, I do."

That made Kimiko's eyes light up

"Then can you tell me about your secret missions?"

Letty blinked and glanced at Owen, who just chuckled

"Kimi always loves hearing about our secret missions. She can't wait until she's old enough to go on her own."

"Please?" Kimiko asked again. "Da always leaves out the best parts!"

"Oi!"

Letty laughed

"Don't worry, I won't leave anything out." She promised
