Kimono Exhibit in Kyoto
If you happen to be in Kyoto this month and you love kimono, you’ll want to visit this exhibit. It closes March 29th but with all the work put into it, we hope it will travel to the US one day. Here’s the link to their website: https://www.thekimono.jp/english
One of our FB friends did go and below are some photos, courtesy of Jane A. Enjoy!
Imagine One World - Kimono Project
We love the concept and the results of this multi-year project to create a kimono designed with the special motifs of each of the 206 counties on Earth. The project has a simple, beautiful mission:
-To make one special hand-woven Kimono and Obi (sash) for each country in the world based on its own unique image. -To send a warm message of mutual respect and unity to the world through sharing the graceful and elegant Japanese expression of art and beauty, the Kimono. -To contribute to the continuation of this form of Japan's traditional cultural heritage for future generations.
This is their tribute to the USA:
We encourage you to like their Facebook page where you’ll get a posting each week when they highlight a different kimono. Their FB page is in English but their Japanese website offers lots of photos and videos.
KYOTO TO CATWALK at the V&A Museum in London
17th-century Japanese garments sit side-by-side with haute couture and costumes from Star Wars ...
From the article by @sarah_j_young : “The exhibition, which runs from Saturday 29 February until 21 June 2020... charts the evolution of the kimono from its origins in the 1660s to present day, both in Japan and the rest of the world. “

If you’re in London during this time, don’t miss it. And please let me know what you thought about it!
