Mythology | Korndämonen
Korndämon: noun, singular; plural: Korndämonen. Literal translation: “grain/corn demon(s)”(do not translate it!)
“Korndämonen” is a collective name for different spirits in german folklore. They come in different forms and can be both animalistic and human. They are supernatural beings living in cornfields.
The name “Dämon”(demon) has nothing to do with the mythological(biblical) Dämon.
You can also call them “Korngeist”(corn spirit) or “Feldgeist”(field spirit).
They have their origin in vegetation gods of agraric orientated people and were worshipped to protect the harvest. With the time, the original meaning of those gods disappeared and they were demonized.
They then became what in German is called a “Kinderschreck”, literally meaning “childrens fright”. This means they are fictional figures to scare children into behaving well(it’s folklore, that shit’s always fucked up).
