The wall around location zero of the nuclear meltdown in the desert. The signs around the wall warn of the hazards associated beyond that point, along with multiple signs inside warning with increasing urgency that you are approaching a point of no return as you get closer to the epicenter of the blast. There is a ring where the signs start to say “if you are reading this you will never live see outside of this place again.”
Gossamer Fleetfoot, one of Dearil’s many extra circular children. Backstory under the cut.
(There is a lot of things that have their own lore and explanations. To keep on track with Goss I will mark those things with a “*”)
The world Goss lives in has furries living in forest bound towns and colonies, while humans (an invasive species) live in cities* that crop up around the continent.
Goss was the product of a trickster god* and a demon. Upon his birth he was left in the forest to die, where he was taken in by a warren of rabbit folk. He grew up in the warren where his found family cowered away underground away from the wolf society* that lived above them. Goss quickly grew much bigger and stronger then the rest of his family. One day he got fed up with cowering and hiding away and went into the heart of the wolf territory alone to face them himself. He took on the wolf pack and thanks to dormant powers from his birth parents was able to defeat them. The alpha wolves* saw members of their family being slaughtered and made a tactical retreat for the good of the pack. Goss returned to his warren victorious wearing one of the skins of the slain wolves.
He learned more of his demon heritage, learned he had the power to influence people though the use of radios and TV screens, the ability to rot things at a touch, and the ability to eat the souls of others to make his own powers stronger. He started making contracts with people that bound their souls to his. His power would be at their beacon call, and in return once they died he would eat their soul.
He mostly made deals with anthros for their souls until the Betadale meltdown turned half the country into a nuclear hot zone*. After the stricter structure of the human cities* he ended up making deals with humans who were just trying to find somewhere safe to live.
One day he came across a young man named Clay Bennett** who he found interesting right off the bat. He agreed to a contract with Goss if in return Goss helped him take over and control the city of Netrodale. Clay’s skills allowed them to get into the city and hack the AI* that controlled the city. Once the robots were disabled Goss hypnotized the entire town to bend to whatever will Clay wanted.
Clay panicked, he was young and didn’t think past his initial goal of taking over the town. He didn’t know what to do with hundreds of people who needed to be told when to eat and sleep. How did he solve this problem? He didn’t. He marched everyone into the freezers of the ice cream factory and left them to freeze to death, sparing only himself, his boyfriend, and Goss.
With just the three of them they established themselves in the town and set up a trading system with the stray furry settlements scattered around the town. In the process they found a few other humans* that were displaced from their homes for various reasons and together they formed “the hopestar crew”
