Now here was a being of stature the hybrid felt a familiar kinship with. It was that alone captured his attention, caused Zane to maintain a rigid control of his composure; straightened his posture until his spine grew taut as he gathered his claws behind his back. No emotion arose in his features as he slowly started to rise and levitate to join the Serpent among the foliage; matching the stern gaze with coldness filled with a cunning intelligence.
Respect was demanded back, it was only proper when greeted by a being that matched his status, yet the manner of which the Serpent intruded upon his domain, barged in to demand answers, was one to give pause before he answered with a swift tongue in a scathing tone, “You think myself to be so callous, blinded by wrath?” He almost sounded insulted. For if he was truly lost, she would be but a corpse the moment he came across her. “To destroy my kin and disturb the delicate balance we maintain on this feeble planet? Spare me your theatrics.”
The Serpent encroached upon a treacherous line. Toying with words, spoke of no true accusations of his misdeeds yet the giant behemoth was touching on sensitive subjects he had not brought up, of what she could possibly be capable of. The danger of rising the dead, tipping the scales, when the Enforcer was no longer present and about, whereabouts unknown.
“Only possibilities.” A subtle gesture towards his captive, pray be he did not garner her attention. “I do not have knowledge of what she is capable of. I am only grateful she has yet caused trouble for me. The same could not be said for her Predecessors. Kindness was their downfall. We are to be neutral by default. I should not carry this torch of two loathsome duties. I am a mere observer at this time, to bear witness to see if my kin to carry out future duties responsibly and without false judgement.”
That of which had yet to be seen. The unknown, while intriguing as it may be, agitated him.
To say what she had done… He truly had no answer for, for his act was one out of pettiness. He was not… accustomed to being denied.
“She has committed no atrocities,” he admitted and that was what he believed from her demeanor, “The scales have been tipped and I cannot repair it without her.” And if she deemed useless, it would become another matter he would rectify at once.
