More BOP (no Mash Out Posse, though I could be onto something there). What's notable about this video is what, with the sound muted, would be least notable about it. There's minimal crazy dancing and maximum standard-issue rapper posing on the block with a big entourage. The main difference visually is there are as many smiles as their are ice-grilles on the faces of the big entourage and King Deazel.
Turn the music up, though, and you're not in King Louie/Lil Durk world anymore. You might not be on a different planet to drill but you're definitely on an orbiting moon of some sort; there's shooting stars flying through the heavens, the water is bright purple and all the women are green, with three breasts. The tempo is jacked up, there's a synthesised steel-drum playing a chirpy Calypso-esque melody and King Deazel is singing more about "Thotties" getting "wasted" than enemies getting pasted. (Though I've heard a Bop song featuring lyrics along the lines of "See an Op [cop], he got to go"; it's not as if violence is absent from this music.)
To semi-nick a phrase of Simon Reynolds, this is the sound of D Boys becoming E Boys; all the sonic techniques of Trap we've heard employed to create a sense of fear and horror (i.e. the hi-pass-filter "Wooosh!" of synthesiser chords/melodies which MikeWillMadeIt has mastered, and which Lex Luger has also used to great - and more Gothic - effect) used to weave a syrupy saccharine spell on Windy City/worldwide party-goers.
