Hello yes humbly asking something for the kinda sorta directors cut we got going on here lol

if you can answer this but i've seen a lot of people's different interpretations of OOT's king given were not really given an accurate picture of what he was like during the events of the game. The manga gives us someone looking for peace but also blissfully arrogant to zelda's dreams,rwanlink adds that arrogant bigot into the picture and i was wondering was there a sort of philosophy you had while writing the kings scenes?

He seems very sullen and burdened by the civil war but also trying to be optimistic in many a way

Again, a lot of this guy's backstory is kkkind of a spoiler, so I will try to dodge some things here, but basically, to get abstract with it...

Maddsen is someone who's main coping mechanism is denial

(also fawning, kind of)

Anything that can help him Not have to deal with something he isn't capable of reconciling with emotionally, he will take, and gladly so. Coupled with this are all the troubles and insecurities he has with his own personal image as a monarch: he wants to be a good king, so badly, and he wants to be a good father, and he wants to be the kind of ruler that forgives and forgets, because only the future should matter after such a dreadful past, and he wants so badly for the future to be good, to be worth it, to be this mythical place in which all of the feelings and trauma and anger and resentment and responsability he doesn't want to address can just flutter away and leave him unburdened and relieved, yaaay

Maddsen sees himself as a sensitive soul forced into a mantle that is far too big for him (and tbh, yea); and so, he refuses to sacrifice the vision he always had for Hyrule, which he adores and sees as a place that is good and joyful and pure and wonderful, and he won't give up on those ideas just because the road to get there is unbearably complicated and everyone fights him at every turn (but it's fine, it's fine, it's literally so fine). He genuinely is trying his best... but not at the cost of his deeply anchored self image that he is, indeed, trying to be good in a world that so desperately tries to turn him into a monster.

He also needs lots of reassurance that he is indeed this person; and to be frank, a man in his position doesn't get access to that many safe ways to receive emotional support (mostly he has the one :) ), and for backstory reasons he REALLY wasn't helped.

But he obviously bares this gaping wound that everyone can see, that weakness in the way he seeks people's approval, and in how he desperately clings to feelings of legitimacy in every single way he can. Which oops! Is extraordinarily easy to manipulate it turns out.
