A temptative of regicide punished by cleaning the royal stable ? what happened in the king head to give such a sentenced to his son ? even more when we know Hans bond with horses. Did he punished him for his crimes or for failing ? how react Hans brothers once he arrived home. an other version of Hans arrival in his homeland that could explain frozen fever punishement.
« What I m suppose to punished a regicide ? That’s not even one that a temptative of regicide. Hans for God sake when you want to prove yourself at least finished your task »
- king of the southern isles
Can we talk about king westergaard behavior on the first chapter of the novel...
First Hans chapter in the novel begin with a big party throw by the king for the queen birthday we learn three main stuff :
- Hans is anxious about it
- That’s an order by his father to come
- he is gonna be mad if Hans doesn’t come
Once he is there late basically what he said to him
« no one would have noticed you anyway only your mother » so what’s the point of ordering your son to come and get if you actually would have never noticed he was there ? 🤨
So he just order his son to come at the events he know he is gonna ignore his son and everyone only his mother ? He just want him to sit at his mother birthday while taking pleasure in Hans suffering of anyone ignorance ( which is not the case because hans is bully) which lead to point number 2. he knows his sons bully his last son ( I really can’t get how he cannot)but nope king order Hans to come at that place. Also at that moment same brothers are literally throwing glass at hans face. So king is there at his wife birthday ( that’s he makes about him because he just want to show off basically) next to him some of his son are assaulting the youngest and the king just sat still chatting to the oldest while « ignoring it ». And this is said once hans run away from the party « he doesnt care if his father would be mad later...so again king is gonna be mad if Hans doesn’t sit calmly at events while
- being ignored
- Being bully
- Being assault
This that’s pure sadism 😭😭😭
King Runeard King Westergaard : who is worse ?
Ok here we are defintly at an other level that what hans did he seems like a teddy bear hahha 😂
First king westergaard seems definitely more close to agnarr generation
In one hand we have a king magicophobe that encourage war oppression against a population colonialism/murder because he hates magic and think magic makes poeple entitled and willing to defy the authority of a king and most likely would have wanted to kill his own granddaughter.
The others is also a tyrant that act like the head of the mafia in his kingdom when people critized him or don’t paid his taxes but it seems to be more internal oppression we don’t knows what he actually did to his poeple and how often.
So there is a first stuff to said runeard crimes seems to be more external to his kingdom while king westergaard crimes are more internal runeard was saw as good king by his poeple
Westergaard is fear by his people 🧐 but runeard kinda goes crazy in a king Triton way 😂 I mean I have hear he lost his wife Rita and goes all crazy about it but we saw Elsa and Anna having a good opinion of their grandfather before knowing the truth so he must have be kinda appreciated.
They both are abusive distant neglectful father who wants to indoctrinate their kids runeard into hate of magic the king of the southern isles survival of the fittest
but king westergaard is just so....mean I m thinking how he talks to hans at the queen birthday as the start of the book.
He is mocking condescending let his kid be assault scapegoating Hans he makes everyone miserable he volontary put them apart and manipulated them into becoming what he wants and in some way don’t leave them a choice because if you don’t act like he wants you are gonna have the same fate as Hans. He is extremely entitled and he just don’t give a damn about his sons but only if they are useful to him and in the end the prince don’t hate him on the contrary they hate each other’s
I would maybe said they are equal 🧐
Because in terms of crimes we just don’t know what king westergaard do to the southern isles citizens there are a lot of unknow and imply stuff while runeard we know better so I will said runeard is the worse but in term of the treatment of their kids I would said king westergaard may be the worst.
Anyway I think we can’t said they are both pretty huge unreedemable monster XD
I really see disney villain potential in the king of the southern isles.
Which is funny because before reading a frozen heart this last summer i had this strong headcanon that the king was hans oldest brother liking the idea much more that hans having his father alive but now i have totally change my mind with the book.
I may overrated him because we saw him only in like 3 chapter in a frozen heart ? And he is a sort of male version of a mixed between tremaine and evil queen
But i really see some potential and honestly the frozen franchise is lacking of a classical villain which is great is some way but i m also really really missing old villain.
1- Pure Evil and At the head of the hierarchy.
first to me he suceeded where hans fail as a villain. Hans to me the two main weak point as a villain was that he was only evil to elsa and anna and was like the 13th prince a lot of people above him on who he depend. But the king of the southern isles He has no one above him he is the king and while hans was evil to only elsa and anna the king is evil to everyone not just hans. he is abusive to all his sons, he just want them to reflect them., he is a careless husband and a despotic king
2-strange weapons : his sons.
i find how much emotional power he has on all his sons sooo creepy. 12 of his sons ( including hans in the 12 sons) are all so much emotionally dependant on him. I didnt count lars.
all the brothers bully hans and then check his approval. The main reasons why they bully hans is to please their dad.
the king humiliated hans in public in front of everyone during his mother birthday and the only one thing hans think is “ how quickly he has forgot me” when his dad ignore him to focuse on his oldest and then he just dream to be only son share time with him , go hunt with him , be the heir of his kingdom and his dad telling him how proud he is of him just after he belittle him in front of everyone.
all the disaster is actually cause by his toxic relationship with all his sons that he has create. 🤔
Hans severe abuse : This is because they want to please they father, ( the explication it give) the king has brainwashed them with the whole social darwinisn westergraad are lion not mices.
The horrible things hans did ; in the isles during 3 years in a frozen heart are because he wanted to have his father trust to go in arendelle and it last 3 years because hans finally notice his father be a little less cold for once.
Arendelle : his actions in arendelle where cause indirectly by the king he had some big impact on hans motivation to go in arendelle. while hans wanted to be king half of his motivation was to show to his father that he was worthy enough have him finally once be pround of him.
So i really see the relationship with his son a sort of antagonist not saying that hans and his brothers are angel and passive but the father has big big implication in their behavior and the source of the problem.
when i say weapon it is really weapon at the first sense, in a frozen heart we learnt that 3 years after doing every single thing for his dad , the king is still cold , a little less , but still cold.
So that means that the king was not bother at the idea to exploit hans without shame or guilt during years to do every single thing and his dirty works and at the end he is still cold.
So since all his son are his sidesick i think the king also uses his others son to do horrible think like punish the one who dont paid the taxes.
6- very manipulative ( much more than Hans)
Yeah like a classical villain in term of manipulation between him and hans he is the mastor. He talk to hans about miroring people to manipulate them (but this is something hans use only with the duke of weselston.) So he is defintly more manipulative than his sons.
3- a villain that is not catch.
he is a villain that wasn't catch. After hans crimes everyone must see between hans and the king hans as the : villain the spoil selfish ungrateful little boy and the king : the poor father who had to deal with his troubled son when we know the bad guy between hans and his father is the king.
Hans , despite hans hating how violent he is and wanted to live the southern isles the one hans hates the most is his brothers not his father. the one he pass days dreaming to share time and saying to him how proud he is is the king while the king is the source of everything of his problem with his brothers. why the brothers bully him. But nope hans just still hope to win his affection and hates his bro.
4- scary ( acording to Hans)😄
The king apparently looks scarier than marshmallow when he is angry
5-cool motto
Well i like "westergraad are lion not mice" as a sort of motto for the southern isles. its sound cool
Thats officially the motivation of the king , social darwinism, survival of the fitest to his treatment of his last sons.
6- The apple dont fall far from the three
if hans was handsome , smart and charismatic its most likely the king show those characterist as well.
7-venomous
the way he talk to hans i personally tought that it was subtle little venemous comment is the same way gothel talk to rapunzel that how tremaine adress to cinderella.
8-wiki description
Basically his wiki villain description :he is pure evil
Since i m starving to have a disney classical villain the king to me has the potential for i find him to be a better better villain than hans and i really think this is possible for him to be more that an abusive father.
Some tought about the king of the southern isles in a frozen heart
In a frozen heart when hans go talk about arendelle to his father the king is very suspicious he said that he is suprise he show so much interest in a little kingdom like arendelle after he give his autorization to hans to go to arendelle coronation he remind him to go back home immediatly after the gates are closed because they will be a need for him in the nursery.
I cant help to think that maybe the king suspect hans to have an idea that he didnt tell him.🤔
Also a frozen heart finished on hans being send back home. But once hans go back home with his plan to be king of arendelle reveal. the king is gonna figure out that hans has complot behind his back try to make a plan and had is some way manipulate him make him beleive he wanted to go in arendelle coronation to make more allie for the southern isles when in fact he had a whole other plans in mind.
Of course he is gonna be furious about the image hans has now make about the southern isles.
But i also cant help imagine the king more furious about hans trying to manipulated him and dont obey to him than his tempative of regicide.
Like the king dont give a damn about morality on the contrary it is say that everyone should obey the king and seems to be a pretty controlling guy since hans see him as a jailer and his kingdom as a prison.
So to le i can imagine the king more angry at hans Behavior toward him than his behavior toward elsa and anna.
