I was doodling in class and this fella was born

Meet King Zephyr of the Hawthorn family

I also coloured it on digital

I let my mind wander while colouring and came up with a few things about him (warning, this might get long, I'm putting down EVERYTHING I came up with, I'm also on mobile so I can't add a read more):

King of the Afterlife

Not Heaven or Hell, the Afterlife is one singular kingdom

He's not shy, just quiet

He's also learned to bury his emotions

In order to be a ruler of all departed souls, both good and bad, one must look at facts with logic rather than acting on impulse with emotion

This gives him the appearance of someone cold and emotionless, but in reality he feels alot and wishes he could show it

I also came up with a bit of lore for the Afterlife, specifically to do with the ruling family

If I ruler wants to retire

They essentially have to adopt a child to take the throne once they come of age

So when an infant dies, usually a stillborn, and all conditions are met, the ruler can adopt the child

The conditions are:

The child has no relatives willing to look after the child in the Afterlife

And the child has no living relatives with at least a 75% chance of dying in the next 15 years

Then the ruler can adopt

Any of y'all remember that OC I posted a while ago? The one that's now my profile pic? She was adopted by Zephyr in order to become queen when she was older

I don't know what I've done, but I like it

They don't even have a name yet

But when she was 16 she decided she didn't want to, and chose a different, more... heinous life instead

And she still doesn't have a name lmao-

Zephyr still sees her as a daughter despite her actions

That was like 100 years ago or something

Zephyr has ruled for about,, 500 years or so? Idk

Anyway more lore I guess

All spirits in the Afterlife have the same sort of look

Long arms, tail thing instead of legs

But colours differ, not quite sure what would cause different colours

And faces etc.

Zephyr, of course as lore implies, was adopted as a baby by the last ruler

I haven't really decided anything about them yet, the precious ruler is probably gonna be non-binary

Uh,,, while most kingdoms have rulers wearing crowns, the Afterlife's ruler wears a special medallion

The royal "family" has been Hawthorn for as long as anyone can remember

In most lore things theres God(s) and a Devil, and the God(s) have conteol over everything

But there is no god or devil

Just the Ruler

The Ruler has very little dominion over the living

Just being able to send Angels and Demons to the overworld

Both angels and demons server the Ruler

It's not a stereotypical situation where angels are inherently good and demons are inherently bad, they just have different roles

Angels are guardian angels

And demons collect the souls of the dead

When someone dies, they can become an angel or demon after rigorous training

So there's normal spirits, Angels, Demons, Ex-Rulers (spirits are already dead, retired Rulers live peacefully away from civilization), and... something else.

The something else are what my profile pic oc became (still need a name for her hhshsgg)

They operate separately from the Ruler, Angels, and Demons

They're the closest things to stereotypical demons

I need a name for the group though

It's the Ruler's job to apprehend them

That's why Zephyr felt so betrayed when pfp oc left her chance at being a Ruler in order to join them

The more souls they gather, the stronger they become

Their power is more raw and unchecked, whereas Rulers', Angels', and Demons' powers are powerful and controlled

If the other group were to isolate their powers and try to control it more, then they'd be more powerful than Rulers

But it's very hard to control your magic as well as a Ruler

They gather souls by tricking the living, successfully stealing a soul causes the victim to remain in limbo when they die until their soul is released

So only like 1% of souls get released and go to their proper afterlife

They get released when a member of the group is apprehended and their link to limbo is severed

And... I think that's all I had

Haze doesn't like anything too sweet, but he likes shortbread quite a bit to snack on :> Wolfgang and Siegfried send him tins of jam shortbread from Cygni with the intention of him sharing, but that's highly unlikely to happen if we're being honest

Zephyr fucking Loves fruit. A lot of exotic imports come through Herz, and Zephyr takes full advantage to trying everything he can get his hands on. He likes to encourage biodiversity in the royal gardens and greenhouses, if only to take advantage of all the yummy things he wants to eat! (He's notably way less picky than his autistic siblings)

he also makes a fucking mess of himself

Rose really loves chocolate! She's not picky what form it takes or where it comes from, especially since she'd want to try lots of takes on chocolate. Her absolute favorites are probably cake and ice cream, anything she can sit and savor for dessert :> (if left to her own devices, she would just have dessert for breakfast lunch and dinner..)

Haze x Iris <3

Iris and Haze have a competitive and playful relationship that everyone rolls their eyes at because they just can't keep it in the bedroom. they're always trying to one-up the other and are kinda insane about eachother also. Dont bother trying to separate them, Haze and Iris find eachother in every universe

Zephyr x Meryll <3

Golden (retriever) boy x goth gf. Meryll and Zephyr had an on and off relationship until they found the power balance that suited them best :> They have a very healthy and communicative relationship and are often watching over everyone else

Rose x Wolfgang <3

Neither Rose or Wolfgang ever thought they'd end up with anyone, and yet they're both home to eachother. Rose has a lot of healing to do after trauma, so Wolfgang is kinda her caretaker who wants to watch and encourage her to blossom into the brilliant woman he sees her to be
