The blunt statement makes the sweet ruler wince. He can't really emphasize with that as he's not only an NPC, but from a racing game. No 'bad guys' in Sugar Rush. "Well, I'm sure you have players who love you for you, not just to beat you."
She smiles a bit. "Yes, there are players like that. I look forward to games with them. Even as they're fighting me, they'll cheer me on and even let me win on occasion."
"It wouldn't be so bad if I was moving on my own. Kartless driving would still be scary, but... well, sometimes the players that get me slam me into things to see if that will cause my kart to appear. I don't have a kart!" He stops himself from ranting further. No need to whine the poor woman's ears off. "Eh heh... So... um..." Think of something, Von Schweetz... "What's it like being a boss character?"
"It's a tough job, quite frankly. The players are always eager to face me because they know I'll give them a challenging fight. It's fun, I supposed, but the whole point of the fight is to kill me. That's the hardest part of being a Bad Guy; no matter how well you do your job, you can never truly win the game."
He shakes his head. "Oh, I would love to race. It's just that hurdling through the air stuck in a seated position at the same speed as the racers /with/ a kart... with all those items and map-generated obstacles... Eh heh... it is /terrifying/."
"Hmm... Yes, I suppose racing would be terrifying, if you aren't the one in control."
King Candy relaxes. It's not a Fighter. "Well, that sounds like an interesting game. I hope the PC doesn't hurt you. It's very different from Sugar Rush, but that's to be expected. I'm an NPC, Vanellope's father, actually. I watch the races, give the winner their trophy, and on the rare occasion a player triggers a glitch in the title screen, they automatically select me as a racer and I find myself on the race track as if I am in a kart. It's very disconcerting..."
Sorceress is genuinely interested. "Is that so? My, that does sound disconcerting. Do you not enjoy racing, then?"
His mood brightens considerably. He's positively beaming! "That's wonderful! It's rather strange how there's so many instances of Sugar Rush and Turbo Time in comparison to other games, but I guess those cabinets were a bit more popular than one would think. If you don't mind my asking, you likely know about Sugar Rush but I've never heard of Blood and Thunder What sort of game is it?" Candy pauses. "Um, it's not a Fighter, is it? Eh heh..."
She looks proud as she describes her game.
"It involves a lot of fighting, but it's really a fantasy adventure game with a strong horror theme. The players must travel through a dangerous land fighting monsters, solving puzzles, navigating mazes, and ultimately saving the day by defeating the Final Boss in combat. That's me, of course."
King Candy frowns. "Nothing good, I assume, and nothing that actually applies to /me/." The racing game character huffs. "That was Turbo. I am an actual character of my own. He wore a copy of graphics like a Halloween costume while I was locked in a null state... Well, either way Sorceress, it is a delight to meet a new character."
She arches her eyebrows. "There seem to be many different King Candys and Turbos around, and none of them are exactly alike. So until I have reason to believe otherwise, I will trust that what you say is the truth."
He looks at the villain, clearly puzzled. "I am certain I have not met an instance of yourself before. Good evening, miss. I am King Candy of Sugar Rush Speedway."
"Oh, yes, I've heard of you." She curtsies politely. "I am Sorceress, of Blood & Thunder."
A diminutive character tumbles into Sorceress's legs. "Oh, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to run into you like that but some robotic character caused me to trip..." ((Hello! I love your Sorceress.))
Sorceress looks down. "It's alright. No harm done."
