ALIGNING OUR HEARTS AND CHARACTER WITH GODS 🤲🏾 📖 Colossians 3:1–11 encourages Christian believers to focus their attention on godly, spiritual things. Those who are spiritually free, thanks to their faith in Christ, should not live in the sins which used to be their habit. Paul specifically refers to certain sins such as sexual immorality, jealousy, slander, lying, and revenge. These are not simply to be avoided: Paul tells believers to ''put to death'' such behaviors in their own lives. Instead, believers ought to demonstrate compassion, humility, patience, and forgiveness. Above all, followers of Christ should show love. Paul also gives specific instructions for those living in Christian homes, including husbands, wives, children, and servants. All believers are united in Christ, so all believers should act as people committed to their Savior. IN CHRIST WE HAVE VICTORY 🙌🏾 After taunting death for its coming defeat in verse 55, Paul declared the "sting" or source of death to be sin and the power of sin to be the law. The law does not create sin, but it does reveal that every human being is sinful. Each of us disobeys the commands of God. The result of sin is always death and not just physical death. Sin is responsible for the death that separates us from God forever. Paul jumps in, much as he does in the book of Romans (📖 Romans 7:24–25) to say this is not the end of the story. He declares his thanks to God, who gives human beings victory over death through Jesus. That is, God forgives the sin of all who trust in Christ's death, offered in their place on the cross, those who believe in His resurrection from the dead as the first defeat of death (📖 John 3:16–18; 📖 Romans 10:9–10). Our inescapable sin-debt meant unavoidable death and eternal separation from God. Christ's sinless life and substitutionary death made our sin escapable through faith in Him and by God's grace (📖 2 Corinthians 5:21). That changes the meaning of physical death in this life for the born-again Christian. Instead of death being the beginning of an eternity apart from the Father (📖 John 3:36; 📖 Revelation 20:15), it is just another step before our resurrection as glorified beings who will spend eternity with the Father (📖 1 John 3:2; 📖 1 Corinthians 15:51–55). Eden Restored: JESUS IS ALPHA & OMEGA 🙌🏾 Jesus identifies Himself as the Alpha and the Omega: the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. He explains He is the first and the last, the beginning and the end. Previously in Revelation Jesus employed this same description of Himself (📖 Revelation 1:8; 21:6). As the Alpha and Omega, He existed before creation and was with God in the beginning (📖 John 1:1). He is, therefore, eternal. Often in John's Gospel Jesus refers to Himself as the "I am;" present tense (📖 John 6:35; 8:12; 11:25). He told His foes He and His Father are one (📖 John 10:30). His enemies recognized that Jesus claimed to be equal with God, so they picked up stones to stone Him to death (📖 John 10:31). They believed He had committed blasphemy. However, long after the present creation passes away, Jesus will still exist because He is eternal. JUDGMENT IS COMING TO EVERYONE! So Save The Date God was giving His people every opportunity to come back to Him and walk with Him, experience His love because they have gone astray. 📖 Malachi 2:17—3:6 presents a dangerous accusation from Israel against God and His sobering response. Israel accuses God of letting the wicked prosper and for not enacting enough justice in the world. God's reply reminds Israel, and us, that the first sin we need to be aware of is our own. Given all that the book of Malachi describes, this is an unwise attitude. The priests of Israel have been disobedient (📖 Malachi 1:6–7). The people have been unfaithful (📖 Malachi 2:10–11). And yet, they have the nerve to ask—sarcastically, it seems—where the "God of justice" is. The upcoming verses will show God's response: brace yourselves, because you're going to get what you wished for. Since asking God to judge means asking to be judged, as His judgment applies to all people at all times. Because God loves His creation, He promises to send the world a messenger, preparing the way for Him. God also predicts the day when He will ''draw near'' for judgment.
