"What?... He... he's... - ... really?" Cranky asked, pausing to take a look at the other with surprise and some silence. "Did you... ...-?" he asked, yet decided not to finish the question. "... Hey... I am glad that at least you are back safe and sound... We all make mistakes... Now you are back... and I am happy about it..." Cranky said to give his son another hug to show how much he cared of him.
A frown doesn't leave him too soon, but its nature shifts to a softened sort as his eyes swivel over to meet those of the king. "Weirdly enough... Bowser took care of him." He supposed he ought to put in a word for the Koopa King...as much of the strife he'd recently caused in the jungle kingdom. Perhaps intervening was simply an act of self interest in which the cold-blooded tyrant wanted to make sure the kingdom didn't fall to someone other than him? Who knew. "And I guess the worst part of it is, I dunno...if I could have at the end of the day."
There were far deeper roots in place on that subject than Cranky knew. But perhaps a glance at his son's expression told him enough of what brewed and turmoiled beneath raised fur.
His silence is resounding, given it's coming from one so dedicated to the opposite of quiet, and he takes a moment to hang his head and curl in to the hug. Sound wasn't necessary for what he picked up there.
"...sorry. I didn't mean to be away for so long."
