Bloodstock Preview #3 - King Leviathan
Origin: Brighton, UK
Genre: Blackened Thrash Metal
Recent Releases: Paean Heretica -2017 (available via BandCamp / or Infernum Records)
For fans of: (old) Opeth/Aura Noir/Celtic Frost/Bathory
The third segment of my Bloodstock preview series centres on Brighton’s own King Leviathan, how such a sunny, cheerful seaside town and popular weekend away destination managed to spawn such a dark, occult worshipping band will forever remain a mystery.
What is clear however is that King Leviathan are a band that blend punishing harsh growls and monstrous riffs with haunting atmospheric moments of cleanly sung clarity almost reminiscent of Deliverance era Opeth mixed with the relentless attack of proto-black metal such as Hellhammer, Bathory and early Sodom.
Having graced the New Blood Stage in 2015 and several years successfully touring with the cream of the UK’s underground (Abhorrent Decimation, Wretched Soul, Venom Inc., Onslaught among others), unfortunately, Bloodstock 2018 looks set to be one of King Leviathan’s final shows as after one last home town gig at Mammothfest in October and a string of UK shows the band plan on taking an indefinite hiatus to pursue individual projects.
King Leviathan are slated to bring their unique shade of darkness one last time to Catton Hall on Sunday 12th August on the Sophie Lancaster Stage and is not a show to be missed.
