If Sarada is what "female representation" looks like, a girl who's willing to take over the seat of a genocidal regime that ethnically cleansed her father's side of the family, for needy girls and/or women that are unnaturally obsessed with pop-feminism and fictional relatability in lieu of the characters' thematic purpose; then the Sharingan should've stayed in the boys' club—forever and ever and ever; because, regardless of which side of the divide they found themselves in, the boys/young men had the iron-will conviction to take deadly risks that put their lives on the line every step of the way (a brutal self-destructive drive that was unmatched in the manga save for just the Ame Orphans); and each of them (prominent ones) are written in a way that they're real and larger than life at the same time. Something that's imperative for the Uchiha antagonism against the showy heroic narrative to shine through with ease.
What a stinky and awful character Sarada turned out to be, something I fully expected. Safe. Boring. Petty. And with no moral convictions, drive, ideology of her own. She just exists to validate a crowd who genuinely believes that all your life’s woes can be healed through marriage and children (God, the capitalistic dream of a nuclear family never leaves us alone, huh? Which is why she’s often used in other Sakura-centric ships as a door that leads to another relationship, away from Sasuke). It’s the sort of tunnel-vision you’d expect from romance-obsessed hyper-consumerists whose privilege speaks louder than words in these cheap takes of theirs. "Like Sasuke," my arse. Hard pass!
(Why doesn’t my boy just use his Rinnegan, skip this dimension entirely, and leave all this awful baggage behind and start anew? Oh wait, they took his Sharingan! Curses!)
You know how the sunlight was following Charles on track in Montreal last year?
This photo is giving me the same feeling. I love the way the light shines on both of them, with the lines on the screen in the background like rays.
