okay so there are these dunes up near lake michigan that we used to go to all the time as kids, the waves are incredible. they're so strong, even at the shore, but it's not deep enough that you are in danger (so long as you know the basics of swimming you feel) it's really lovely and like, 50 yards out when it's finally getting deep and you think you might have to swim back, you hit a sandbar and you're standing in the middle of the lake, looking back at all these small people next to huge dunes

that sounds magical
