MATT SMITH AND ALEX KINGSTON

Obviously AU, but no one asks me anything mattex these days and I’m just T.T

falls asleep on the couch

Both. It’s a habit they picked up on the Who set. Odd and long hours meant little or restless sleep. There was this one rickety couch in one of the dressing rooms that would act as a makeshift bed for them. Matt had discovered it by accident, and while he wouldn’t let Karen or Arthur share it, he would gladly make whatever little space the couch allowed for Alex. At first Alex resisted the idea, but gradually the temptation of sleep proved far stronger. And it’s so much easier and comforting. He is warm, his long limbs wrapped around her like he is some kind of human octopus preventing her from falling off the couch, and with the soft rumbling of his chest, it’s easier to give into her exhaustion. Now, they keep doing it off and on again, while watching television, some game, or a boring movie. Even sometimes while reading.

makes friends with the neighbors

Alex. She loves to acquaint herself with people around her, sometimes holding a small get-together for everyone. As people friendly as Matt is, sometimes he can be way too lost in his own world, and she needs to drag him along to make friends with neighbours.

is the adventurous eater

Both, but Alex more than Matt. Matt’s adventure is limited to a questionable banana and chocolate spread sandwich, and eating cuisines that he is at least partially familiar with. Alex, on the other hand, loves to experiment with set recipes, play around with ingredients and flavours, and come up with unusual things. Unless she is filming, or is allergic to/on dietary restrictions, she doesn’t mind trying cuisines that she isn’t even a little bit familiar with.

hogs the covers at night

Alex. She either cocoons herself inside the covers or ends up throwing them entirely off the bed, but some time during the night she is sure to steal them and leave Matt coverless. Initially he would make an attempt to make her share or struggle with her. Now he just snuggles with her, forcing her to share the covers with him.

forgets to do the dishes

Both, especially when lost in their thoughts or discussing something.

tries to surprise their partner more often

Both. They are both such romantics, and love to surprise each other. A small picnic, impromptu vacation, dinner date, or a small thoughtful gift. It’s just these little things that are enough to bring a smile to their faces.

leaves dirty laundry on the floor

Matt. Mostly after he has had a football game with friends, or has helped Alex in her garden, or painted with her or kids. Usually Matt is very particular about keeping the house clean, but it’s easier to forget things when Alex is shaking her head and crinkling her nose at him.

stays up till 2 AM reading

Both. Both Matt and Alex love to read, and sometimes they even discuss and theorise about whatever they have read. So unless they have an early morning schedule, or have been filming all day, they can be found lounging on the floor or in bed with books in their hands and stacks of pillows behind them, reading together. Some times they read the same book together, with Alex seated between his legs or his head in her lap; while one reads, the other listens.

sings in the shower

Both, but only when around each other. Matt likes to belt out entire songs, even if a bit offkey, while Alex has the habit of constantly humming throughout the day, and is a bit of quiet singer in the bathroom.

takes the selfies

Alex. While she doesn’t really love taking selfies, she does have a few really cute ones of them together. The ones Matt takes are more with him making silly faces at the camera and her trying to smile politely.

plans date night

Both. Unless one is trying to surprise the other, they prefer to plan things together.

sorry I’m replying to this on Saturday! also be warned I have Canadian netflix so it might be different from what you use. also I haven’t watched a lot of TV shows on there so I hope that’s not what you’re looking for! I’d recommend Death Comes to Pemberley, Anna Karenina, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, the Aristocats (just noticed they put that on there!), His Girl Friday, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Frank, The Great Gatsby, American Beauty, My Week With Marilyn, and Only Lovers Left Alive. sorry I couldn’t be more help with TV shows!
