when did you start knitting & why

I started knitting in November of 2005. There was a whole bunch of little things that lead up to it, really. Like, I was tired of just watching tv and feeling lazy, and I've always been a really fidgety kid, you know? I figured if I learned something like knitting, I could watch tv and have something to do with my hands but still feel like I was being sort of productive. Plus I guess that was right at the point where knitting was super trendy, and I may have had some minor sense of that, although I don't remember thinking about it that way. ALSO I knew at that point that in December that year I was leaving Little Rock to move to Boston and start grad school, and that was a huge big change and I think I just needed something to distract me. I rationalized it by saying I was moving somewhere much colder and needed to learn how to make warm things, lol. The day after I mentioned to my boyfriend (now former) that I was thinking about learning, we went to Barnes and Noble with his parents and there happened to be a giant table full of knitting books that were all on sale, so I figured GOOD ENOUGH and grabbed a book and a kit and started working it out whenever I'd take breaks from packing.
