{Kirk Elliott - Unconditional, Intentional - See Reviews Below}

First of all, I quite like Kirk Elliott from what I can tell of his presence on social media. The gentleman is enthusiastic, friendly, and supportive. It almost feels like a friendship despite our relationship ever having been purely virtual. That being said, his charisma can not stir the impassive author into action.

That - is something only a good fragrance can do!

And so? What of these fragrances? Did Mr. Elliott deliver the goods, so to speak?

I have to say that not only did he do a wholly competent job of executing his fragrance goals, but he landed these two scents nicely in what (if I might make some personal conjecture) seem to be two more recently repopularized fragrance markets: fresh and smoky/fall gourmand.

Intentional 7.5/10

The first time I tried Intentional, I was struck by the fresh-cut roses. I’m talking greenish coagulated ichor still wet on the florist’s scissors - fresh. There’s something less floral lurking in there, however. Something more pure “green.” I’d have to say this other prominent, almost savory, greenness is most certainly the tomato (stem?). To that effect Intentional could certainly be slipped into a Hermès “Un Jardin” collection with nary a soul knowing any better. A successful unisex green scent.

Unconditional 8/10

Ok, I’ll admit it - I was vacillating between giving Unconditional a 7.5 or an 8, but I’m a sucker for smoky, fall gourmand scents. You win this round Mr. Elliot.

As its distant relations before it - By the Fireplace, Noir Exquis - Unconditional capitalizes on a lovely warm, amber-y, smoky melange of notes. I’m given to understanding that based on Kirk Elliott’s self-provided list of notes, most of what I’m smelling is amber and firewood. The additional sweetness could be coming from the tangerine or tobacco notes, but I’d hedge more towards tangerine, as the tobacco richness is not immediately apparent to me.

My one caveat for Unconditional is that it reads “high-end candle” on my skin; this is not to say that it doesn’t smell good, but I’d rather scent my house like this than my person. Boost the firewood component and I’ll hope right on board.
