A fandom that you feel isn’t open and accepting? I don’t feel like I’ve ever come across one that isn’t open and accepting, it’s more so that it can be difficult to settle in; the Supernatural fandom. I attempted to step foot in there numerous years ago on a Castiel account, then Death (hello, that show did such a smashing job with him), Anna Milton and then Death again but with a lemon twist. People were nice and welcoming each time when I’d talk to them, but it was quite difficult to get interaction going due to the sheer amount of threads everyone already had going, along with the concept of exclusivity slowly starting to grow at the time— so it was difficult. I managed and can’t even blame me leaving the fandom on it, but it was something. I’ve learned that big fandoms can have that tendency, but dedication and sheer force of will can still definitely get you there.
Have you ever rp’d with someone you knew for a fact was abusive but tried to give them a chance/to make up your own opinion on the roleplayer? Did they change or did you understand what people were talking about? These questions are a field day because I want to answer them truthfully and I do. But to not have them be more than merely vague stories or examples, I’d have to namedrop and I don’t do that. Anyway, no, I haven’t RP’d with people like that (not to avoid them or doing so, but it’s just has never happened; I’m picky when it comes to writing) but I’ve spoken to one or two in passing out of character. I wouldn’t say that they were abusive, but simply controversial. And that on its own would be considered taboo by many on Tumblr. But I simply don’t like judging people based on opinions that aren’t my own or harsh opinions that aren’t substantiated in any way. I mean, I trust the opinions of my friends as I find them pretty good judges of character, but I don’t like judging on one side of a story or simply not having an informed opinion. I mean you never know where bias could occur or false information could lead to some catastrophic misunderstanding, then again— people also exaggerate. So… at the end of it, I don’t judge an entire person based on what others say or claim.
