Happy Friday! just a short one this time - I’ve had a rough week, so I’ve only read one new work, plus the updates of two of my lovely mutuals’ amazing fics, which I’ve already recommended but you should TOTALLY read. Will I ever stop shouting about these fics? How dare you even ask

- Night Shift by @pinkfadespirit​ is the modern magic/vampire DA2 AU that EVERYBODY needs, and it hit 100k words this week (congrats!). It is so good. I feel like Charlie in the It’s Always Sunny Pepe Silvia meme trying to work out where the plot’s going to go next, but wherever the plot does go is always so entertaining, and it’s just so well-written, well-paced and well-characterised. Read it!!

- In Loss, Love by @kirkwallgremlin​. If you like the tag “Carver and Alistair are both bi because who’s going to stop me”, this is your fic. If you want friends-to-lovers Carvistair with some kissing dreams and a side-helping of trauma, this is your fic. Emily is the Carvistair queen. I didn’t really ship the boys before I read her stuff, but I sure as hell do now. This fic is just so bloody good. It’s also beautifully written and very emotionally charged, in the best ways. 

- Starlight by @thenightingalelily​. It’s a great Fenris/Lavellan fic charting the two of them as they grow up in Danarius’ household, before they become either Fenris or Lavellan. There’s romance, angst, great cat content, and some lovely writing - I’m really excited to see where it goes next. *contains abuse mentions, so look after yourselves going in*

If anyone has any recs of anything fluffy and delightful, please send them my way - I could do with cheering up! Not a fan of Solavallan, but I’ll give most other things a go.

ey up, happy Friday! the hour is nigh. the time has come. let’s rec some fics.

I haven’t had the attention span to read much recently, but here are a few works I’ve really enjoyed. quality over quantity, right?

- The Far Shore by aban_asaara @asaara-writes​. In the wake of the Kirkwall rebellion, Hawke and Fenris flee to Rivain, as far away from the Chantry’s grasp as possible. But with a price on the former Champion’s head, nowhere in Thedas is safe. this is just the most beautifully written post-DA2 FenHawke longfic, with pitch-perfect characterisation and a really engaging plot. whom or what do I have to sacrifice to be able to write like this?

- In Loss, Love by Gremkt @kirkwallgremlin​. Carver’s expedition to the Deep Roads doesn’t exactly go to plan when he contracts the Blight and ends up with the Grey Wardens. As Carver becomes more comfortable with his new life, he finds himself also getting more comfortable with one of his fellow Wardens... this might only be a chapter in, but I’m already hooked. Carver’s such a complex and wonderful and kinda heartbreaking character (HE WAS SIXTEEN AT OSTAGAR AND THAT IS NOT OK), and this fic really GETS that, you know? again, what kind of eldritch entity do I have to make a pact with to be able to make something so good?

- thrive by heavensabove is soft, wholesome Blackwall/Trevelyan post-Trespasser loveliness that makes me feel extremely warm and fuzzy inside. pure, pure domestic fluff and that is what i NEEDED this week. also, this makes me want to find my own hot northern dad who has the sense of humour of a twelve-year-old and elope to a woodland cabin together. is that too much to ask?

- the life that, here, awaits by ghostbunny @pinkfadespirit​. Fenders! come and get your Fenders! hot and fresh from AO3! this fic has it all: beautiful writing, insanely good characterisation and angst. the ANGST. the denial of feelings. the tense yet also sweet interactions between these two fools who’re obviously in deeper than either of them realise. read it.

(and because I’m the worst, have some links to a couple of fics I posted within the last week(ish) - autumnal Blackwall/Lavellan hurt/comfort cuteness, and a fully ridiculous modern-with-magic coffeeshop meet-cute AU featuring cranky barista Hawke and a very chaotic good Ser-Pounce-A-Lot. please forgive my disgusting self-promotion but u gotta toot ur own horn sometimes right)
