I've been reading the marimite light novels recently and I love reading all the details and thoughts that didn't make it into the anime. having yumi as a narrator makes her a more fleshed out character. it also makes the series even gayer because of yumi's thoughts about sachiko that she doesn't actually say out loud lol. not to mention kashiwagi being canonically gay, something the anime doesn't outright say
right so it is time. books that i feel don’t get enough love here we go!!!
1. Whispering Pines- Heidi Lang and Kati Bartkowski
lovely amazing incredible!! Awesome worldbuilding and characters. creepy crawling things and paranormal and supernatural!!! one of my absolute favorites. It is now a trilogy, btw.
2. The Bookwanderers- Anna James
wonderful series!! literally living out my childhood fantasy, it’s amazing- kid gets to wander into books, and there is some very interesting plot!!
3. Lost in the Never Woods- Aiden Thomas
a gorgeous peter pan adaptation. a lovely story and i really love the darker elements and twists!! I actually cried after reading this ahaha
4. Arlo Finch in the Valley of Fire- John August
awesome fantasy with incredible worldbuilding!! intriguing and unique plot, and it’s a trilogy so you have more than one to look forward to
5. Wildwood- Colin Meloy
absolutely beautiful world!! written by the leader of the Decemberists actually, lmao. another trilogy- beautiful art and adventurous characters and plot :)
6. The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place- Maryrose Wood
Lovely!! Wonderful characters and setting- so many books in this series, and they are very very good. the plot advances in surprising ways and it’s great!

ey up, happy Friday! the hour is nigh. the time has come. let’s rec some fics.
I haven’t had the attention span to read much recently, but here are a few works I’ve really enjoyed. quality over quantity, right?
- The Far Shore by aban_asaara @asaara-writes. In the wake of the Kirkwall rebellion, Hawke and Fenris flee to Rivain, as far away from the Chantry’s grasp as possible. But with a price on the former Champion’s head, nowhere in Thedas is safe. this is just the most beautifully written post-DA2 FenHawke longfic, with pitch-perfect characterisation and a really engaging plot. whom or what do I have to sacrifice to be able to write like this?
- In Loss, Love by Gremkt @kirkwallgremlin. Carver’s expedition to the Deep Roads doesn’t exactly go to plan when he contracts the Blight and ends up with the Grey Wardens. As Carver becomes more comfortable with his new life, he finds himself also getting more comfortable with one of his fellow Wardens... this might only be a chapter in, but I’m already hooked. Carver’s such a complex and wonderful and kinda heartbreaking character (HE WAS SIXTEEN AT OSTAGAR AND THAT IS NOT OK), and this fic really GETS that, you know? again, what kind of eldritch entity do I have to make a pact with to be able to make something so good?
- thrive by heavensabove is soft, wholesome Blackwall/Trevelyan post-Trespasser loveliness that makes me feel extremely warm and fuzzy inside. pure, pure domestic fluff and that is what i NEEDED this week. also, this makes me want to find my own hot northern dad who has the sense of humour of a twelve-year-old and elope to a woodland cabin together. is that too much to ask?
- the life that, here, awaits by ghostbunny @pinkfadespirit. Fenders! come and get your Fenders! hot and fresh from AO3! this fic has it all: beautiful writing, insanely good characterisation and angst. the ANGST. the denial of feelings. the tense yet also sweet interactions between these two fools who’re obviously in deeper than either of them realise. read it.
(and because I’m the worst, have some links to a couple of fics I posted within the last week(ish) - autumnal Blackwall/Lavellan hurt/comfort cuteness, and a fully ridiculous modern-with-magic coffeeshop meet-cute AU featuring cranky barista Hawke and a very chaotic good Ser-Pounce-A-Lot. please forgive my disgusting self-promotion but u gotta toot ur own horn sometimes right)
