Okay so, last year I wrote this story for this writing competition in my state, and I had been developing the premise for a while, but basically, it’s an alternate universe where merpeople (my friend insisted I call them myrmidons after Achilles’ army in the myths) exist! (because honestly, the ocean is so unexplored! they say space is the last frontier, but, we know less about what’s lurking in our ocean than we know about the rules and laws that govern outer space!)
now onto adrien after the cut because I fear this is gonna be super long,,
so, adrien (his name means water or the sea!!) is part of the sub-race of myrmidons that i’ve been calling the oceanic (after the ocean zone) he’s part of an elite regimen called the royal guards that serve and protect the royal family! (please don’t ask me questions about the royals or anything just yet, im tryna figure out how i wanna arrange the social structure to include royalty and a sci-fi feel like i want it to be) he’s been training to be a part of the royal guards since he was about eleven
i’ve been flipping between the ideas of him being part of the lower class or the son of a senator, but I think I’ll probably end up going with him being the son of a senator because that gives him a great way to meet the main character of the series (who’s name is kirryn!)
anyway, they meet when adrien is eleven and ryn is ten and adrien gets a crush~
and wowza, ryn is the prince, so!! adrien has a career plan chosen for him if he wants to stick close to ryn!
anyway, along to adrien’s actual character -
he’s tough, training for eleven years as a royal guard can make a person like that, and, christ, adrien is tough, and not just physically. part of his training is for him to be able to respond to stress and dangerous situations well
he can be callous and cold - his life has one objective, as far as his commanders and leaders are concerned. protect the royals, more specifically, adrien has been assigned to the branch of the guards that protect the prince (lucky for him, huh ;))), his life, as adrien is concerned has two objectives, 1. protect the prince 2. make sure kirryn is fine and doing safe mentally and feels loved because the senators are a pack of wolves and adrien would know, but because of this, adrien tends to shrug off the diplomacy when dealing with everyone but kirryn and his superiors (he doesn’t back talk senators like he wishes he can, but they can’t control him either. he works for the prince and the prince alone.)
he has an awful relationship with his dad, and im only mentioning this because it affects how he views relationships. he tries to be as little like his father as he can, he never yells at anyone, ever, and he generally makes jokes when he’s around kirryn. it makes both of them feel better
he’s also really touchy around ryn when they’re alone (hugs, arm slung around ryn’s shoulder, kisses, the like!)
also, expanding on him being callous - he means the best, he really does, but, the best, for him is ryn being safe and sound and well, at the end of the day. other people, are usually just taking up his time (he spends the nights with ryn anyway, so, if hangs around his quarters and gossips, that takes his time away from ryn) as such, he doesn’t have many friends and is codependent on ryn, which most definitely something i want to touch on for personal reasons
