Trick or treat! 🧙♀️🔮✨
Verdict: TREAT!
more jerejean! :D (continued from here)
Jeremy's expression tinges with sympathy and quiet rage. After a long second, Jeremy raises his hand again. This time he brushes Jean's hair off his forehead, his touch feather-light but lingering. When Jean doesn't move away, Jeremy's fingers push gently into Jean's hair, barely scratching an itch he hadn't yet felt. It's nice. Jean doesn't say so.
"He can never hurt you again." Jeremy's voice comes out a whisper, but it's fierce. "No one is ever going to hurt you again."
"So you say."
"I hope someday you'll believe me." Jeremy gives Jean's scalp another soft scritch before taking his hand away. It takes everything in Jean not to chase after it, after Jeremy as he starts to leave the room.
"Jeremy," Jean says abruptly. When Jeremy turns to give him a questioning brow, Jean doesn't have any clue why he stopped him. Jean just swallows. "Thank you."
Jeremy lights up with a smile bright as a sunbeam and Jean is overcome with a feeling he hoped he'd buried in South Carolina. (The one that died when Kevin left. The one revived by a few text messages with Renee. The one that's constantly and consistently fucked him over since the first time he ever felt it.)
He ignores it. Tries to.
Fails, when Jeremy licks his lips.
"Anytime." Jeremy says softly, then he clicks his tongue and points his thumb towards the kitchen. "Guess I better go supervise."
With that, the moment is broken and Jean is infinitely thankful. He stands up. "You mean you're going to steal bits of the vegetables as Cat cuts them up."
"Well, duh, someone has to make sure they're not poisoned."
