Gift for @kit-kat-bard drawn by @alizebe using the prompt “What if Lester lost all his memories?”
(Firstly sorry not sorry that they are cat haha. I tried to make them humans first, but it wasn't working out heh.) • I feel like the begining of the story would have to be different for this au. • Apollo as Lester would wake up without any memories (only with those of his knowledge of our modern world) • He would probly feel very scared and confused • I feel like Meg would save his from like getting hit by a car or something and explain to him that she is a demigod and that he is a god, Apollo • Of course he wouldn't believe her at first, only after getting attacked by monsters he will slowly start to realize that she might be telling the truth • I feel like overtime Lester would get more and more of his memories from being a god • this comic is about him telling Meg what he remembers.

A Shopping Trip With The Sunflower Siblings

“Meg, you need some more clothes.”
Meg looked up from the daffodil she had been tending with a scowl.
“Why?” she pouted, shoving her sliding glasses up the bridge of her nose while glaring at Apollo.
“Because you have been wearing that unicorn shirt for the past three weeks and this is getting ridiculous!” He said, draping himself dramatically over the mossy garden wall he was perched upon.
“I think it’s nice,” she humphed, fiddling with the compost smeared sequins.
“Meg, it looks like you lost a fight with an industrial-sized cheese grater, and after all, most normal people have more than one outfit.” Her glare darkened. “Alright, alright!” Apollo raised his hands placatingly, “At least think about it. Besides, you can still wear that shirt sometimes even when you have multiple outfits.”
Meg humphed but started to waver when Apollo turned his masterful puppy dog eyes on her.
“Idiot,” she smirked, but rose to her feet and brushed off her knees, though only succeeding in smearing the dirt more thoroughly into her jeans. “We can go but only if we stop at the burrito place for lunch.”
“Sue thing! Apollo beamed, popping up from the wall, the keys to his sports car appearing in his hand. “Come on! Shopping trips are fun!”
“Sleep, buddy,” Tango says, smiling, “I’ll keep watch.”
There’s an odd sense of satisfaction that overcomes Tango when Jimmy slowly lowers himself to the ground, back facing the ceiling with his fresh, fluffy wings laying out. The pile of cloaks is used as a make-shift pillow, Jimmy crossing his arms around it and shoving his face into the fabric.
He keeps his eyes on Tango for a moment, eyebrows drooping ever so slightly. Tango tries not to stare at him, but they make eye contact and Jimmy smiles.
“Y’know,” he says, “You really are a nice man, Tango.”
Tango feels his fingers twitch, suddenly wired with a pulse of energy. He tries to keep it to himself, and laughs.
“I don’t know about nice,” he says, “But I guess I’ll take that.”
“You should-” Jimmy cuts himself off with another yawn, face dropping back into the fabric and eyes slowly closing, “You’re so nice.. and your hands are sooo warm…”
Tango smiles at his slurring speech. “Go to sleep, your highness.”
And Jimmy does. It takes no more than another minute or two before sleep takes him. His long eyelashes rest over still-pink cheekbones, blond hair tousling with a subtle breeze that blows through.
He watches Jimmy sleep soundly, breath so achingly slow and relaxed that Tango’s sure he can feel his own heartbeat slowing. A question enters his mind, seemingly out of the blue and yet.. oddly expected. Like he’s been beating around it for far longer than he would admit.
How’s he supposed to leave this guy?
They’d had the conversation the night before. Jimmy said it himself that they were going to part ways. But.. Well, sue him for seeing something more in those big brown puddles he calls eyes. It was easy to tell when Jimmy was hesitant about something. His silly confidence only cracked when he was truly unsure, and the gap of silence between ‘we’ and ‘part ways’ was a little too damning. That was the plan and yet, he found himself agreeing with words that had no weight to them. Right, he said, as if he was sure. Right, like they really weren’t going to be together anymore once they got far enough away. And when was that? What is considered far enough away, what would ease their separation?
Of course, Tango wanted to find his way back home. But, was that really the best option now? He didn’t consider, in the moment, that the entire plane would likely know he’s missing now. If Tango knew his father, every portal would be so heavily guarded that even before he’d materialize, they’d have him in cuffs. He was just so ready to be away from everything that had happened—away from Jimmy—that he hadn’t even thoughthard enough about it.
And.. the preening. Tango doesn’t know exactly how Avians work, at least not as closely as Jimmy definitely would. But it felt so.. strangely intimate. Touchy, close, and warm and even thinking about it makes that heat in Tango begin to spark off. Was he even supposed to do that? Allowed? All he wanted to do was help, but he feels as though he’s.. done something. Opened up a can of worms.
Maybe it was his own can of worms.
Gods, he was so sure. This used to be hate, used to be indifference, or friendship or tolerance or-
What was it now?
Jimmy shifts in his sleep, groaning quietly. Tango watches his nose scrunch up a little, and his quiet breath turns into a gentle snore. It makes a smile force its way onto Tango’s face, toothy and wide.
The hard square of metal in his chest begins to melt, the temperature within him rising slowly. The heat is so familiar, he almost doesn’t notice it until he presses a hand to himself and feels it burning all the way through the fabric of his shirt. It is intense, this time. Fear begins to creep in, sending his brain into a whirl of feelings he can’t quite decipher. All he knows is that he doesn’t.. know if he even wants them. Like they’re in his hands, heavy. What is he supposed to do with them?
Smile suddenly falling, he tears his eyes away from Jimmy. He finds their surroundings, searching for what is.. supposed to be falling rain.
Tango doesn’t know when the storm stopped. He registers the silence, the humidity hanging in the air—the new burst of sunlight, apparently inside him as much as it is around him. Everything sparkles, drawing his focus to the rest of the world as its seemingly flash storm has moved on.
When he finally takes a breath, the air feels thick, but fresh. It takes him right out of his own head, if only for a second, as he turns back to Jimmy. He’s barely noticed the change in weather, sleeping on. Some of the sun rays sneak below the shelter’s roof, rolling across his wings and his hair, making the golden bits shine like something divine.
Tango was never one for fearing the deities.
Even so, he is not foolish enough to wake an angel from his nap.
A bit more than 500 words but?!?!!?!? I Love this scene So Much!!!! I shant say the amount of times I've re-read it cause it's just That Good! Especially the "He's opened a can of worms, Maybe his own can of worms." And! The last sentence!! Ahhhh!!! It gets me every time! Anyway I'll stop fangirling about this now, I just love your fic so much!
hi! that is totally okay that you included more than 500 words. :> i'm also gonna be so real with you, who was gonna tell me that this scene was so well-written? like? hello? i thought the preening scene itself was good, but this last bit ended up coming out a lot better than i thought. wild what a few months of not looking at a fic will do to my impression of it. sorry for having a mini brag i just hadn't quite realized how well it came out afksdjfs thank u for indulging me. anyway, yes!! okay!! i have lots to say about this one. i'm probably gonna pick out specific lines, and i apologize if they aren't really in order akfjs so like. generally for this scene, i was kinda looking for feelings realizations? at this point in the fic i felt the slow burn had lasted long enough, and while it still hasn't quite reached it's PEAK yet, i felt that this was necessary and it ended up being such a lovely little moment. Especially for tango too—i have always been very jimmy-biased as a character, but i find myself (in my own opinion) a little better at writing tango? he forces me to experiment with characterization and this moment was no different. i love that you mention the "can of worms" line, actually, because i just. i love that line. i think the phenomenon of tango thinking he's opened something up for jimmy but realizing it's actually something within himself. i don't know what that really says about his character, but i just adore this "oh i'm fucked" mentality. it's really funny to me and feels very tango-esque, especially for this version of him in the AU. while on the topic of lines you specifically noted, the last line!!! i'm fucking crazy about it, to this day. i really... listen, i know angel/bird imagery is associated with jimmy a lot, and i definitely fell victim to that here. but i was even more into this tapping into the nether's lack of gods/deities, y'know? especially with tango himself. that man believes in ZERO higher powers. but the way that his lil internal monologue/subconscious saw jimmy as something a little holy in that moment? i'm. y'know. i just loved working with that. same with the sunlight imagery. i couldn't not have it in there, and that was specifically in reference to a song called "stray italian greyhound" by vienna tang. :) it is Their song to me, so, had to stick it in there—my favorite line from that part is just the: 'He registers the silence, the humidity hanging in the air—the new burst of sunlight, apparently inside him as much as it is around him. Everything sparkles, drawing his focus to the rest of the world as its seemingly flash storm has moved on.' like. i just thought it came out really pretty, the image of the world sparkling from freshly fallen rain—that specific sort of warmth from the sun after a heavy storm that feels so humid and specific, y'know? and in similar vein to that song reference, 'What is he supposed to do with them?' is also a nod to that song! there are some lyrics that go "what do i do with a love that won't sit still?" so. yeah! that's another fun fact about this bit :) also: 'Gods, he was so sure. This used to be hate, used to be indifference, or friendship or tolerance or-
What was it now?' your typical enemies to lovers confusion-about-feelings line. i'd been waiting to write that since i made the first reference to "masks" and other feelings being hidden, way back in earlier chapters. if i recall correctly, i think that was also in a tango POV? i can't fully remember right now. anyway. i don't have a ton of other comments? i am SO glad someone decided to highlight this last moment of the preening chapter because. i put so much effort in and was really worried it felt kinda forced? too convenient for a feelings realization? i stopped caring about coming off as cliché a long time ago,, to an extent, but like. yeah. i'm so glad you like this bit :D that makes me so happy. and thank you for the ask, sorry it took so long to answer you!<3
