'Thank the Maker', the sixth story in Star Wars Tale #6, is all about child Anakin finding and repairing C3PO and adult Vader remembering this. It includes Anakin explicitly identifying with 3PO as a fellow slave, being aware Watto could blow him up, risking punishment to help repair 3PO, and spending time with Kitstar and his mother. Plus Vader being incredibly fucked up over the memories.
