I was floundering today and just when I was giving in to poop things my hq!! Suits zine decided to waltz through my doorstep?!?! Thanks for putting together a beautiful zine along with the participants, @kittlekrattle !!! It arrived slightly curved but no damage I can make note of so the courier did fine. I'm going to constantly pat my sweaty hands dry whenever I turn a page aha. Also I realize my email is different from my username here so if you got a note on tictail abt someone's order journey being long and painful that was me! Sorry lmao. The dollar conversions messed me up when I was trying to transfer payment. ._. (DISCLAIMER: I live in the same area as kittle so if you see this and didn't get your order yet don't worry!! If there is one thing Iwaizumi Hajime isn’t, it’s cocky.

He’s confident where it’s justified, prideful rarely, and humble in general, but there’s one thing ... well, there might be one thing he’d been a little too sure of.

Underestimation—a rookie mistake. Pretty embarrassing, considering he is anything but. Having beaten Hanamaki fair and square countless times, there should be no reason for him to be scared. Hanamaki isn’t bad at arm wrestling, but he’s no match for him. Wasn’t. Won’t be.

Except he’s putting up a pretty good fight right now. The air is thick, Oikawa fidgeting, stalking around the desk they’re seated at to keep a good eye on everything. The club room is silent, apart from the occasional creak of the table or an aggressive huff of air pushed out through gritted teeth.

“When will you learn,” Iwaizumi grunts, the hand on his back clenching into a tight fist as he presses the palm of his other harder against Hanamaki’s.

“Go, Iwa-chan!” Oikawa stage-whispers. Hanamaki grunts at the affront, and Iwaizumi smirks—he’s the clear favorite here.

“Wipe that annoying smirk off your face, Iwa-chan,” Hanamaki mocks. His eyes are alight, fiery determination clouding them. His grip on Iwaizumi’s fist is strong, maybe stronger than usual, but their clasped hands haven’t moved much in either direction so far. If anything, it’s been a game of endurance for both of them. This must be their longest match yet; Hanamaki’s definitely gotten stronger. Iwaizumi isn’t about to give up, though.

He channels all of his strength into his right arm, his muscles straining against the rolled up sleeve of his uniform shirt, and pushes. A hiss escapes Hanamaki at the added pressure, and much to Iwaizumi’s satisfaction, he can’t quite keep up with him. So it had been a matter of who could stand the constant counterpressure the longest—if this is it, they’ll be done soon.

Hanamaki’s face is red with exertion. Sweat drips down his temples as he struggles to hold his own against Iwaizumi, teeth digging into his bottom lip. By all accounts, it’s a good look on him, Iwaizumi thinks. The flush brings out his eyes, and the intensity of their gaze is hot enough to burn. For a flicker of a second, those eyes bore straight into Iwaizumi’s own, a defiant glint to them.

Hanamaki licks his lips, teeth showing as they pull back into a grin. “You’re going down, Hajime-kun.”

“What makes you think that?” Iwaizumi laughs. His arm begins to jitter under the pressure, even if he’s still got the upper hand. Hanamaki must surely be the same, if not worse? Unless he was holding back...?

“Oh? So you’re curious to find out. I guess it can’t be helped, then, can it?”

Iwaizumi doesn’t understand. Hanamaki’s surely just trying to trick him, trying to catch him off guard while he’s distracted attempting to make sense of the absolute bullshit he spouts during these matches—

Until Iwaizumi isn’t so sure anymore. Hanamaki pulls back, and that alone is enough to throw him for a loop, but he pulls him with him, leaving Iwaizumi no option but to lean into it—and slots his mouth against Iwaizumi’s.

There’s no finesse. There’s no movement either, just the press of bitten lips against lips. Blood rushes in Iwaizumi’s ears, and he gasps, too surprised to properly react to the sudden attack. His heart goes into overdrive, pounding against his ribs. His eyes close, which must be a weird innate instinct, and he finds himself leaning into it, tentatively opening his mouth to see if there’s any sort of follow up behind Hanamaki’s unexpected bravado.

There is. It comes in the form of a triumphant battlecry and the painful, sobering grind of Iwaizumi’s knuckles against the tabletop.

“I win!” Hanamaki throws his hands up in the air, a clear, melodious laugh breaking from his throat. When he looks at Iwaizumi, he doubles over, clutching his stomach as he’s shaken by peals of laughter.

Heat blooms all over Iwaizumi’s face. “That’s cheating, asshole, what the hell? Oikawa?”

Oikawa looks equal parts scandalized and entertained, a shit-eating grin hidden sparsely behind his hands. “There’s no rule against displays of affection during a match,” he snickers.

“I can’t believe this.” Iwaizumi grinds the heels of his palms into his eyes, a groan rolling off his tongue. He can still feel the sensation of Hanamaki’s lips, the warmth that came with it, and it makes him want to curl up in a ball and disappear. “You happy now?”

“Very.” Hanamaki pries his hands away from his eyes, and Iwaizumi almost jerks away from his touch, but the dusting of pink across Hanamaki’s cheeks is too much of a distraction to. “You want a rematch?”

Under these conditions? With Oikawa watching, and updating all of their teammates via Line of the precise circumstances of his loss? Hell no. Iwaizumi crosses his arms defensively.

Hanamaki leans into his space again, mouth dangerously close to his ear. “Doesn’t have to be here. You wanna come over for dinner tonight? Mom’s making stew.”

A prickling zing! shoots up Iwaizumi’s spine. “Are you asking me out?” he half coughs, half whispers. His face is still burning.

Hanamaki shrugs and gets up, chair scraping along the floor, to join Oikawa by the lockers to grab his bag. “It’s up to you.”

Shaking his head, Iwaizumi follows. He endures Oikawa’s teasing as they make their way down the stairs from the club room and to the school gate, making no attempts at giving Hanamaki an answer. In Iwaizumi’s honest opinion, he doesn’t deserve one, the cheeky bastard. But Hanamaki keeps giving him these looks, eyebrows raised expectantly, that make him anticipate Oikawa’s departure at the station with an unexpected sort of urgency. He isn’t necessarily after a rematch, but rather the opportunity to ask Hanamaki what that kiss was about. Maybe, just maybe, he’d try for a rematch of that. Just to be fair.

He doesn’t give Hanamaki his answer until he’s home. He sends him a simple text, telling him he’d be over for dinner just in time. Hanamaki responds with a wink and a flexing emoji, which makes Iwaizumi think that maybe, just maybe, he’s got the same idea.

And the prospect of that almost makes losing to him worth it, Iwaizumi thinks. If that’s what losing to Hanamaki feels like, he doesn’t think he’ll mind.
