The Smile (2013)
I keep saying ‘I’m okay’ and put on a smile
But truth is I haven’t been that way for a while
Saying ‘you’ll be okay and it’ll pass’ doesn't help as much as you think
It just makes matters worse and I feel the problems further sink
I don’t know how to fix what is wrong with me
And it doesn't help when there’s more that others can’t see
I’m afraid to cry around most so I become a recluse
Then and only then I let these feelings loose
Over thinking is my enemy as well as this horrid grief
I just want to have it all go away so I can finally have relief
By delving into fantasy each time to try to cope
My mind would be peaceful and then just elope
Some may think I’m lying and making up pain
It must be the smile but there is no personal gain
I tend to keep emotions all bottled up inside
Then act like everything is okay and let my hurt hide
Everyone has issues and different ways to deal with it
I try to get creative but rarely do I pitch a fit
I love everyone who tries to help but few understand
That there are multiple demons inside at hand
It isn't only one issue here or two there
Some I rather not talk about when I convince myself ‘I don’t care’
I've always heard ‘the ones who smile the most hide the most hurt’
Well, that smile of mine must have buried everything under six feet of dirt
So don’t take for granted that I’m happy when I smile
It’s only a cracked porcelain mask that will break more and more after a while.
Made this while in Kittrell last year. Just found this on my computer.
