What is your Favourite parts about An American Werewolf In London ?
any scene with the Slaughtered Lamb crowd, the investigators, or that one American embassy representative in the hospital— very good illustrations of how complacency and entrenched bias can hurt people for no good reason. Everyone I’ve ever watched this film with has found the townsfolk’s behavior extremely frustrating, and it is, and it’s the realest shit in any movie
I want to put the vintage horror color grading in my mouth
the dream sequences really nail an off-kilter dreamlike strangeness movie dream sequences rarely do. I think it’s the low budget, but for whatever reason it hits just right
bare man ass every other scene
for real though, I enjoy how sensual this film is allowed to be, and it’s a sensibility that comes through in both the sex/love scenes and the violent transformation sequences. The dichotomy is so powerful, like the visceral intensity of feeling conveyed by this film needs to be studied and talked about until the end of time. This is what horror is all about, baby!!
I really like David and Alex together, it’s so hard to sell the tragedy of such a brief relationship, but goddamn they DID IT. They literally killed her beautiful bisexual boyfriend in front of her
I love the practical effects ❤️ the transformation sequence goes so hard. I don’t care if the wolf puppet looks like shit, it’s a worthy tradeoff imo
The scene in the phone booth makes me want to set myself on fire, I don’t even think I have to explain. Ow!
I like how David runs at first when Jack gets attacked by the werewolf, I think that was so real for a regular ass man in a fight or flight scenerio, and I enjoy the implication of survivors guilt and angst that comes from it later. And the shot of him looking down at the corpse. And him lying on the ground in shock, after. And his freakout at the hospital. This fucking movie, man
On rewatch the scenes right at the beginning with David and Jack joking around, especially the exchange with the sheep for some reason, just get to me. They were supposed to stay for 3 months! They were gonna go to Italy!!
The porno theatre scene! I love the absurd dissonant comedy of the porno, the claws coming through the nails, how tired Jack sounds the whole time, like he can’t even bring himself to joke around anymore. It just ties everything together for me. That one post that’s like “turning into a werewolf and groaning in agony in the porno theatre and everyone thinks you’re coming” said it best, GODDAMN what a good scene
David Kessler canonically eats pussy
David feeling great the morning after the transformation hits me where it hurts, too. It feels like an extension of the loss of agency represented by the transformation, like even when he’s human he can’t escape from it, even when it feels good. Ow. OW!
I go completely bonkers for the ending, btw. Complete silence and Alex weeping, the lingering shot of David’s corpse, how innocent he looks, how horrible and tragic and unnecessary his death was. Hard cut to the credits, and the upbeat pop song underscores your realization of how unfair this all is. They were so right for that, what else do you even need to see
This is such an angry fucking film, I’ve said this before but I cannot say it enough. This is a film about trauma to me, and in my opinion, no movie has ever done it better. We don’t have to make movies, anymore. Aawil wins!
THAT ONE MOMENT DURING THE TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE WHEN DAVID LOOKS AT THE CAMERA AND REACHES OUT LIKE HE’S APPEALING FOR HELP, BUT WE CAN’T. WE CAN’T HELP HIM. OWWWWW!!!!
