12mR “Kiwi Magic”
When it comes to choosing a backpacker bus tour across New Zealand you may be faced with a choice between the big 3 tour companies currently operating a hop on, hop off bus pass service.
One option for flexible bus hopping in New Zealand is the Kiwi Experience. Kiwi Experience is a flexible hop on, hop off bus operation that allows travelers a whole year to complete their journey stopping off en route to take in the sights, the activities and the people. Aimed mainly at a young crowd, the kiwi experience bus is filled by mostly 18-25 year olds. Check out their routes and current specials here.
Stray Travel is aimed at a slightly older audience then the Kiwi Bus Stray seems to somehow strike a great balance of people who still want to have fun but also won’t be partying every night. I encountered people of all ages on the Stray bus but found the majority to be in their 20′s. More relaxed and intimate with smaller bus sizes and more stops with accommodation facilities that encourage the group to get together. Check out their rates, routes and specials here.
For a bit of Kiwi Magic, the Magic service tends to attract a slightly older crowd of mid twenty somethings. People will want to see the sights of New Zealand whilst having fun at the same time. The buses are usually quite large and reasonably modern. The buses all pretty much follow the same route as the other two operators but it's worth checking them out to see who has the best offers for the season, here.
Stray Travel is most consistently recommended by backpackers and those in the tourism industry in New Zealand, Stray's network extends further than the other companies with the route visiting both the Bay of Islands and a Southern Island loop including Stewart Island.
