I bet it would feel good asf to be spatchcocked like a chicken
"I wish I was a fictional character so my flaws could be interesting and complex and compelling instead of just being pathetic" ← things said by local enby who's fine fine just fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine
hot take: projecting a parental role onto every older character is a form of ageism. older people's existence being reduced to being someone else's mom or dad is stupid, they have so much more to offer than that. if you can't see the value of an older character outside of being the parental guardian that's a you problem, and you can't see a healthy interaction between an older and younger character without immediately assigning them to mommy or daddy duty that's also a you problem
If you have the opportunity, PLEASE go see You, Me & Tuscany. If you want to support female directors, go see this movie. If you have been complaining about the lack of originality in cinema, the constant adaptations and IP crap, GO SEE THIS MOVIE. There are eyes on the results of this film to see whether or not original screenplays still have the hold of audiences. And despite the success of films like Sinners, black cinema is still not being invested in, with black filmmakers being put on pause by studios until the box office numbers of this film comes out. It's been almost a decade since a major black-led romcom was in theaters. It looks like a fun time, go see it! It comes out April 9th in Australia and New Zealand, and April 10th in the US and UK.

I long for the day people can look at characters who are friends or have a strong platonic bond or even have a found family vibe to them without immediately going "and that one's the mommy, and that one's the daddy, and this is the big sister/brother, and that one's the little brother/sister". I'll say it again until I'm hoarse, FOUND FAMILY DOES NOT EQUAL TRADITIONAL NUCLEAR FAMILY DYNAMICS! if you think people are incapable of caring deeply for each other without becoming the other's parent/child/sibling you need help
