If you want/need a more long-lasting form of BC,...
We talked about the implant. I have a tendency to habitually pick at things (I do it in my sleep too) so I'm afraid I'd tear it out if I got it. The doctor was steering me away from an IUD, I think because in my case it would be difficult to install (that's another long and intimate discussion we can have sometime).
Some friends have had good luck with depo, but others haven't. My niece was on it and became pregnant. My grand-nephew is awesome, but having kids isn't in my life-plan. She has thyroid issues, so I'm getting mine checked as well to make sure that won't be a problem if I decide to go with it.
My biggest problem is that I'm extremely irregular and have a lot of pain from cramping. I've also had a lot more hormone related acne in the last few years that's been leaving a lot of scars.
Thankfully, this doctor wasn't blowing me off and was willing to consider surgery. By that point of the appointment I was reeling from my flu shot and really overwhelmed by the whole thing so I just kind of shut down. Once I've gotten myself together a bit better, I'll make another appointment to get stuff sorted out and I'll bring a list. And maybe I'll bring a female friend to help advocate for me. I get so anxious at these things I can't keep my bearings.
